The Berkeley YMCA has 2 indoor pools, including a 7 lane lap pool, open year round.\nThe mission of the YMCA of the East Bay is: To empower youth, advance health and strengthen communities.\nFor more information about the Y, visit www.ymcaeastbay.org.\n\nJob Description\n\nThis is a great part-time job for students, retirees, and everyone in between who likes the water and working with kids. Our swim instructors teach people of all ages (infants through adults) how to be comfortable and safe in the water with the goal to increase water competency in our community. We provide ample in-service training to hone instructors’ swimming knowledge and technical skill as well as developing class organization and management strategies. Applicants need not be highly proficient swimmers themselves as long as they are open to learning on job and can swim the following basic requirements in shallow water:\nREQUIRED: 50 yards freestyle, 50 yards backstroke, 25 yards breaststroke\nPREFERRED: 25 yards elementary backstroke, 15 yards sidestroke, 15 yards dolphin kick or butterfly\nWe are currently looking for swim instructor applicants with ongoing availability for at least one of the following session blocks:\nMondays/Wednesdays, 4:15-7:00 or 4:15-7:45pm\nTuesdays/Thursdays, 4:15-7:00 or 4:15-7:45pm\nSaturdays, 10:00am-2:00pm\nCompensation:\n$20.50-$21.50/hour DOE\nOn the job training\nFree YMCA membership!\n\nQualifications\n\nMinimum Qualifications for Swim Instructors:\nMinimum of 16 years of age\nCPR for the Professional Rescuer (within 90 days of hire)\nStandard First Aid (within 90 days of hire)\nDemonstrated ability to swim in shallow water (YMCA Minnow or ARC Level 4 Swimming Level)\n\nAdditional Information\n\nWe strive to build a staff team that reflects the broad diversity of our community.
