The visitorexperience team helps inspire visitors wonder and interest in astronomyand other STEM related topics. VisitorExperience Associates have an enthusiastic approach to greeting andhelping visitors to the observatory that willresult in increased store sales, membership recruitment and positivevisitor feedback.ResponsibilitiesEnthusiastically welcome and greet visitors to Lowell ObservatoryPossess a positive attitude towards Lowells visitors providing themsuperior service.Understand and promote Lowell Observatorys mission to pursue the studyof astronomy, maintainquality public education and outreach programs and bring the results ofastronomical research to thegeneral public.Attend and educate oneself on programming to become an informed resourcefor visitors.Inform and recruit visitors about Lowells membership programLearn Lowells sales software systems and be able to ring in admissions,gift shop sales, membershipsany other register transactions.Become knowledgeable about all products we carry i.e. telescope,binoculars, book, etc.Able to learn product physical locations and restock merchandise on adaily basis as well as throughoutthe day as needed.Maintain cleanliness of visitor center lobby and restrooms throughoutthe day (i.e. pick up paper towelsand tissue off bathroom floor and place in the trash) and restock paperproducts when necessaryDisinfect high touch surfaces between guest groups in the giftshop andlobby.Perform tasks necessary to open and close the gift shop and visitorcenter, including turning alarm onand off, counting cash, turning registers on and off and resetting storeproduct, etc.Check email, website and daily task lists in order to have completeunderstanding of public program-related activities going on at Lowell ObservatoryCommunicate information about daily public program happenings tovisitors and staffAnswer phone and be able to answer callers questions or direct them tothe correct person and/orprovide contact information2 \| P a g eQualifications And ExpectationsAbility to work varied hours/days including nights, weekends, andholidays.Demonstrate effective sales techniquesDemonstrate a high level of integrity in the proper processing ofcustomer transactionsCandidates must possess basic math skillsDemonstrate cash handling experienceWillingness and ability to learnMust enjoy interacting with peopleStrong communication abilitiesStrong attention to detailReliabilityExperience And EducationHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.Prefer one-year excellent guest service andone-year cash handling, or an equivalent combination of education andexperience.WORKING CONDITIONSThis position requires long periods of standing, bending, stretching,and reaching. Speaking and listening, both inperson and while using the telephone. Ability to occasionally lift boxesof merchandise up to forty pounds onto awheeled device for moving from building to building. Some work ondisplays may require a ladder with 2-4steps. Moving throughout the campus, on sometimes uneven terrain,sometimes in low light.The working conditions described here represent those an employee mayencounter while performing essentialfunctions of this job.
