This role ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and compliance of all financial information in accordance with GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements.The Corporate Controller oversees all core accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and tax reporting. This position plays a key leadership role in strengthening internal controls, improving financial processes, and delivering actionable financial insights to support executive decision-making.The Corporate Controller reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer and maintains a dotted-line reporting relationship to the Vice President, Finance – Family Office.Major Duties and Responsibilities:Lead the preparation and issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAPOversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and tax complianceManage multi-union payroll operations with a large seasonal workforceDirect the monthly close process, ensuring timely completion, accuracy, and proper review of all reconciliationsPrepare and present financial reporting and analysis, including variance analysis (actual vs. budget, prior periods)Serve as primary liaison with external auditors and lead the annual financial statement auditEstablish, maintain, and enforce strong internal controls and financial policiesDrive process improvements, system enhancements, and automation initiatives to increase efficiency and accuracyMonitor financial performance and recommend cost control and operational efficiency improvementsOversee intercompany accounting, transactions, and reconciliationsLead, develop, and retain a high-performing accounting teamPrepare and manage the annual submission for the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) Contractor’s Certificate of Eligibility, ensuring full complianceEnsure accurate accounting for fixed assets, including capital additions, disposals, and lease accountingOversee union reporting, related payments, and reconciliationsSupport regulatory and agency reporting requirements as neededProvide financial information to our financial institutionsRequired Skill/KnowledgeBachelor’s degree in Accounting (CPA preferred)10–12 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in the construction industryMinimum 5 years of leadership experience managing accounting teamsStrong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirementsExperience managing external audits and auditor relationshipsExperience with corporate tax matters, including C-Corps and S-CorpsAdvanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools (Power BI preferred)Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsExperience with percentage-of-completion (POC) accountingExperience in multi-union construction accounting environmentsFamiliarity with IDOT financial reporting requirements or similar regulatory frameworksExperience with ERP systems and process automation initiativesSuccess MetricsFinancial statements and reporting delivered accurately and on scheduleClean audit results with no material weaknesses or significant deficienciesZero missed regulatory or compliance deadlinesHigh-quality financial reporting that supports executive and ownership decision-makingStrengthened internal controls and reduced operational riskMeasurable improvements in accounting efficiency and process standardizationDevelopment and retention of a strong, capable accounting teamWell-documented and consistently applied accounting policies and proceduresWhy PloteAt Plote we care about the health and well-being of our employees.
