Position SummaryJob DescriptionYork Country Day School is seeking Summer Camp Counselors for the period of June 1, 2026 through August 7, 2026. Positions offer a flexible schedule of up to 29 hours per week, scheduled between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.Summer Camp Counselors will assist the Program Director and Summer Program Supervisors with daily instruction and activities for preschool students. This program is regulated by the Office of Child Development and Early Learning (OCDEL); therefore, all staff are required to adhere to state regulations at all times. Responsibilities include active supervision, developmentally appropriate practices, and engaging children in safe, meaningful learning experiences. Candidates must demonstrate patience, reliability, flexibility, enthusiasm, and a genuine interest in working with young children.OutcomeThe Summer Program Counselor is responsible for planning and managing daily activities that promote a safe, engaging, and positive environment for all participants. Counselors will actively supervise and support children, adhere to the established summer program schedule, and ensure the safety and well-being of all participants at all times. Summer Program Counselors will communicate participant needs, concerns, and incidents to their supervisor as necessary.Essential FunctionsDemonstrate the ability to lead and effectively manage a preschool classroom of summer program participantsEnsure active supervision, use developmentally appropriate practices and responses, and facilitate engage, age-appropriate activities while maintaining the health and safety of children and the environmentMaintain trustworthiness, punctuality, and the ability to consistently follow and enforce program rules, policies and guidelines Adhere to all safety, health, and emergency procedures and protocolsServe as a positive team member by communicating effectively and professionally with administrators, supervisors, colleagues, children and families. Experience and Education RequiredRequired Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or olderHigh school diploma or equivalentPrior experience working with childrenSuccessful completion of state mandated background checks - PA State Police, Child Abuse, FBI, and NSORAbility to successfully complete a pre-employment health assessment Must complete and maintain all required trainings as mandated by OCDELPreferred Qualifications: 2500 documented hours working and/or volunteering with childrenPrevious experience working in a state regulated program or childcare centerSome college education, preferably in education or human services Required Skills and QualificationsEnsure a safe, clean, and well-maintained environment for young childrenProvide active supervision and engage children consistently throughout the program dayDemonstrate the ability to organize and implement developmentally appropriate activitiesExhibit strong verbal and written communication skillsAbility to design, organize, and lead a variety of engaging, age-appropriate learning and play experiencesDemonstrate sound judgement and decision-making to ensure the safety and well-being of all childrenAdditional InformationYork College of Pennsylvania is an Equal Opportunity Employer and Non-Discriminatory.
