Under the general direction of the Program Director and Early Childhood Education Teacher, the teacher’s aide will assists in the care, supervision and learning activities of children enrolled in the infant, toddler or preschool programs accordance with organization’s policies and in compliance with state Title 22 and title 5 regulations.
Duties and responsibilities
Ensure a warm, caring, and stimulating environment for children
Assess and provide for the children’s physical needs including holding, rocking, cleaning, diaper changing, toileting assistance, clothing, feeding, and nap and rest supervision; assist children with the development of self-help skills.
Provide for the children’s developmental needs
Utilize a variety of instructional techniques and strategies to enhance and develop the social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of the children; assist children with learning activities and encourage their participation
Organize and supervise children in playground activities in a safe manner
Maintain records and logs regarding children’s schedule of activities, nutrition and health; communicate with parents regarding daily activities and/or concerns.
Sign in and check out children to parents and guardians; check and verify proper identification according to established procedures; note special instructions
Maintain classroom in a sanitary, neat and orderly manner including, sanitizing diaper changing area; cleaning and disinfecting play areas; cleaning serving and eating areas after meals; washing dishes, towels and other laundry; organizing play areas; arranging classroom displays and bulletin boards.
Utilize behavior management strategies to monitor and support children’s behavior
Evaluate health of children; administer medication as directed; perform First Aid as necessary; contact parents as necessary; follow school health policy.
Perform routine clerical duties such as filing and copies
Monitor inventory of supplies and materials; report needs to appropriate personnel.
Participate in meetings, in-service trainings and other activities as assigned.
Perform related duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications
Education and Experience
Completion of 12th grade or equivalent
A minimum of 12 Early Childhood Development or Child Development units
At least one year of paid or unpaid verifiable experience working with children
3 units focused on infant/toddler development
Licenses and Requirements
No license required
Valid CPR and First Aid or willingness to obtain CPR and First Aid Certification
Additional Requirements
Knowledge of:
Play based instructional approach
Basic needs and characteristics of infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
Instructional techniques and strategies.
Title 22 and title 5 regulations, policies and procedures.
Behavior management techniques and strategies.
Learning activities appropriate to infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
Oral and written communication skills; Correct English usage, grammar, spelling and punctuation and vocabulary.
Ability to:
Understand and follow oral and written directions
Work cooperatively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
Determine the needs and understand the behavior of children
Initiate and supervise planned program activities
Work confidentially with discretion.
Terms of Employment
Twelve month work year
Criminal Justice Department Fingerprint Clearance, Physical and TB Clearance
CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain certification).
Salary
Hourly Rate: $18 - $22/hr (Based on education and experience)
