You will collaborate closely with systems, mechanical, and electrical engineers to implement reliable, maintainable software that supports operational shipboard control systems.\nKey Responsibilities\nDesign, develop, and maintain Java-based PIMCS software modules, including:\nAlarm management and event handling\nMachinery data acquisition and processing\nSystem status monitoring and health reporting\nI/O abstraction and interface layers\nData logging, trending, and historian functions\nImplement and maintain networked and distributed Java applications, including socket-based communication and protocol-driven data exchange.\nDevelop software in accordance with Naval Combatant Design Specifications (NCDS), Design Practice Criteria (DPC), and applicable NAVSEA guidance (on-the-job training and mentorship provided).\nSupport software integration with machinery control subsystems, plant equipment interfaces, and control system test environments.\nDevelop and maintain software requirements, design documentation, test procedures, and configuration artifacts.\nParticipate in Agile/Scrum development cycles, including sprint planning, backlog refinement, and iterative software delivery.\nDebug, troubleshoot, and optimize Java applications to ensure performance, stability, and reliability in lab and shipboard environments.\nProvide lifecycle sustainment support following the NSWCPD Systems Engineering Process (SEP) and applicable CMMI / IEEE standards.\nCollaborate with cross-functional teams (systems, mechanical, electrical, test, and program management) to ensure alignment with PIMCS technical objectives.\nRequired Qualifications\n3+ years of professional Java development experience (candidates with more experience are also encouraged to apply).\nStrong understanding of object-oriented design, Java application architecture, and modular software development.\nExperience developing networked applications, including TCP/IP, UDP, REST, or other socket-based communication.\nFamiliarity with software configuration management and version control tools (Git, SVN, or equivalent).\nExperience producing and maintaining technical software documentation (requirements, design descriptions, test plans, or similar).\nWorking knowledge of secure coding practices and interest in DoD cybersecurity considerations.\nBachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.\nU.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance (active clearance preferred).\nDesired (Nice-to-Have) QualificationsYou do not need all of these to be a strong candidate. Experience in any of the following areas is a plus:\nExperience with machinery control systems, HM&E systems, industrial control software, or other software that interacts with hardware or real-world equipment.\nFamiliarity with PLC integration or PLC simulation in a test or lab environment.\nExperience supporting control system testing, integration labs, or shipboard/field software deployments.\nExperience with any of the following: databases, GUI development, Python, unit and integration testing, or Linux.\nExperience developing or supporting operator interfaces or monitoring dashboards backed by Java services.\nExposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, or automated testing frameworks.\nParticipation in formal code reviews, design reviews, or technical audits.\nKnowledge of both Windows and Linux development environments.\nCompTIA Security+ or similar certification.\nIntelliSys Solutions is committed to increasing employment opportunities in historically underutilized areas (HUB Zones) and some recruitment efforts may give preference to applicants who reside in those certified areas.
