Assistant Controller
Job DescriptionAssistant ControllerJob SummarySeeking an experienced Assistant Controller to support accounting operations within an insurance-focused organization. This role will play a key part in overseeing financial reporting, statutory compliance, reinsurance accounting, and system-related processes. The position partners closely with leadership to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and regulatory compliance across all accounting functions.ResponsibilitiesSupport implementation and ongoing administration of financial and subledger systems, including configuration, rule management, and exception review Oversee underwriting-related accounting processes, including premium recognition, reserves, and related calculations Lead preparation and coordination of quarterly and annual statutory financial statements and related filings Serve as a primary liaison with external auditors and consultants for financial reporting and regulatory requirements Assist with documentation and support for regulatory examinations and audits Manage reinsurance accounting processes, including tracking, reconciliation, and settlement activities Maintain accurate schedules and documentation related to reinsurance agreements and transactions Partner with leadership on GAAP close processes and financial reporting across multiple entities Support financial systems administration and workflow management for month-end close processes Oversee disbursements, payment processing, and reconciliation activities Identify and resolve discrepancies, errors, and compliance-related issues Ensure adherence to internal controls, policies, and regulatory requirements Qualifications/RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA preferred Experience in insurance accounting, preferably within a carrier environment Strong knowledge of statutory accounting principles and financial reporting requirements Experience with reinsurance accounting concepts and structures Background in multi-entity accounting and consolidations Familiarity with financial systems, ERP platforms, and accounting tools Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Compensation PackageSalary: $125K - $190K + Bonus (based on experience)Comprehensive benefits package Disclaimer: Please note that this job description may not cover all duties, responsibilities, or aspects of the role, and it is subject to modification at the employer's discretion.
