Under general supervision of the Revenue Cycle Management Director: Medical Billing Specialist will be responsible for processing physician billing for a busy medical practice, including maintaining billing software, appeals when appropriate to obtain maximum reimbursement, and responding to patient billing requests. Essential Duties & Responsibilities – Medical Billing Specialist Data entry of insurance and patient information. Processes denials, claim re-submissions, appeals, and secondary claims. Resolve patient account issues. Interpret EOBs (Explanation of Benefits) to resubmit or appeal insufficient or denied claims. Process incoming inquiries from patients and insurance companies. Responsible for review of information in patient accounts and/or timely and accurate entry of patient demographic and insurance information. Use available resources to gather complete insurance data including use of websites, calls to patients, insurance companies or other institutions. Respond to costumer server requests from with the CBO. Maintain HIPPAA compliance. Responsible for all aspects of billing and maintaining AR financial classes such as Private Pay, Medicaid, Medicare Part A & B, Commercial, and Third-Party Insurances. Update and maintain document lists. Performs accurate charge entries. Performs related duties as assigned by Revenue Cycle Management Director. Minimum Education Requirements High School Diploma or GED required Medical Billing Certification from an accredited institution Associate degree in business, health care administration, accounting or relevant field (Preferred) Minimum Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Education: High School Diploma, Medical Billing Certificate program required. Associates degree preferred. Training and experience: Two years of medical billing experience required. Internet, email, MS Office and data entry skills required. Unless otherwise indicated, one year of current experience within the last year in a comparable job classification is required. Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of patient and client information. Ability to pass state/federal background security check. Ability to work independently within the role and effectively with other team members. Ability to organize and complete work in a timely manner. Ability to read, write and effectively communicate in English. Ability to understand medical/surgical terminology. Must have the ability to multitask and manage time effectively. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Outstanding problem-solving and organizational abilities. Attention to detail, which is required to accurately record billing information. Work Environment/Physical Requirements Primary work location is in a general office environment, with noise level of office conditions. Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, turn, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinets drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, printer, fax and telephone. Requires normal, correctable vision and hearing, and the ability to accurately discern duties as necessary to perform job functions.
