We are a *software-heavy call center environment* with numerous internally developed applications, integrations, automation systems, reporting platforms, APIs, databases, and telecommunications-related systems. Much of our existing infrastructure has been developed in-house, primarily using PHP, JavaScript, MySQL/MariaDB, Linux, Bash, and related technologies.\n\nWe are looking for someone who can take ownership of technical problems from beginning to end and operate independently across both software development and systems troubleshooting.\n\nThe majority of this position will focus on *software development, debugging, automation, databases, APIs, and Linux/server systems*. A smaller portion of the position will involve general IT and employee technical support as needed.\n\n*Primary Responsibilities*\n\n· Develop, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve internal web applications and business systems.\n\n· Work extensively with existing PHP applications, including both modern and legacy codebases.\n\n· Develop applications and services using PHP, JavaScript, Node.js, MySQL/MariaDB, and related technologies.\n\n· Design and maintain database schemas, queries, stored data, reporting systems, and integrations.\n\n· Write efficient SQL and diagnose database performance or data-related problems.\n\n· Build and consume REST APIs and integrate third-party services.\n\n· Debug complex application problems across frontend, backend, database, API, and server layers.\n\n· Troubleshoot production issues using logs, command-line tools, database queries, and application debugging.\n\n· Work within Linux server environments and assist with configuration, deployment, permissions, cron jobs, services, networking, SSL, Apache/Nginx, and related systems.\n\n· Write and maintain Bash scripts and other automation tools.\n\n· Maintain and improve existing systems while helping design and build new applications.\n\n· Use Git and modern source-control workflows to manage development.\n\n· Document systems, technical procedures, troubleshooting steps, and important architectural decisions.\n\n*AI-Assisted Software Development*\n\nWe are actively expanding our use of *AI-assisted and agentic software development*.\n\nExperience using modern AI coding tools is highly desirable. This may include tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar AI development environments.\n\nThe ideal candidate understands how to use AI to accelerate software development while still applying strong engineering judgment.\n\nThis includes the ability to:\n\n· Translate business requirements into clear technical instructions for AI coding tools.\n\n· Use AI coding agents to explore and understand existing codebases.\n\n· Generate and modify applications across multiple files and systems.\n\n· Review and understand AI-generated code rather than blindly accepting it.\n\n· Debug problems introduced by AI-generated code.\n\n· Test and validate generated solutions.\n\n· Identify security, performance, maintainability, and architectural issues.\n\n· Use AI effectively for refactoring, debugging, documentation, testing, SQL development, automation, and application development.\n\n· Know when to use AI and when traditional hands-on debugging or development is more appropriate.\n\n*Systems & Technical Support Responsibilities*\n\nWhile software engineering will be the primary focus of this position, this is a hands-on technical environment and occasional general IT responsibilities are part of the role.\n\nThese responsibilities may include:\n\n· Troubleshooting employee computer, software, headset, browser, or connectivity issues.\n\n· Providing technical support in person, over the phone, or through remote-support tools.\n\n· Installing and configuring desktops, laptops, hard drives, switches, routers, cables, and related equipment.\n\n· Imaging and configuring Windows and Linux workstations.\n\n· Troubleshooting network connectivity and workstation issues.\n\n· Assisting with servers, network equipment, and other technical infrastructure.\n\n· Physically installing or moving computers, servers, and related equipment when required.\n\n· Communicating professionally with employees, management, customers, and outside vendors.\n\n*Required Skills*\n\n· Strong professional PHP development experience.\n\n· Strong JavaScript experience.\n\n· Experience developing with Node.js.\n\n· Strong MySQL and/or MariaDB experience.\n\n· Ability to write and troubleshoot complex SQL queries.\n\n· Strong Linux experience.\n\n· Comfortable working extensively from the Linux command line.\n\n· Experience debugging production applications and server-side problems.\n\n· Experience building and consuming REST APIs.\n\n· Understanding of HTTP, web applications, databases, and client/server architecture.\n\n· Experience with Git and source-control workflows.\n\n· Ability to understand and modify unfamiliar or legacy code.\n\n· Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.\n\n· Ability to independently research and solve technical problems.\n\n· Ability to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical employees.\n\n· Strong attention to detail and ability to document technical work.\n\n*Preferred Skills*\n\nExperience in any of the following is a plus:\n\n· AI-assisted software development and AI coding agents.\n\n· Cursor, Claude Code, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar development tools.\n\n· Python.\n\n· Bash scripting.\n\n· Perl.\n\n· HTML/CSS and frontend application development.\n\n· Linux server administration.\n\n· Apache or Nginx.\n\n· REST API development and third-party API integrations.\n\n· Database optimization and performance troubleshooting.\n\n· Networking, firewalls, VPNs, and network troubleshooting.\n\n· VoIP, telecommunications, or call-center technology.\n\n· Automation and scheduled/background processing.\n\n· Application deployment and production server management.\n\n· Legacy PHP modernization.\n\n· Building new applications using AI-assisted development workflows.\n\n*What We Are Looking For*\n\nThe ideal candidate is a *technical problem solver rather than a narrowly specialized developer*.\n\nYou should be comfortable being handed a problem such as:\n\n· An existing PHP application suddenly stopped working.\n\n· A database query is taking several minutes to complete.\n\n· An API integration is returning unexpected data.\n\n· A Linux server process is failing.\n\n· A scheduled job stopped running.\n\n· An employee workstation cannot connect to an internal system.\n\n· An existing application needs a new feature.\n\n· A manual business process should be automated.\n\n· A completely new internal application needs to be designed and built.\n\nYou should be able to investigate the problem, determine the root cause, develop a solution, test it, implement it, and clearly communicate what was done.\n\nWe value *technical versatility, curiosity, ownership, and problem-solving ability* more than expertise in one specific framework.\n\n*Work Environment*\n\nThis is an *on-site position, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM*.\n\nBecause this position supports both our software systems and physical technology environment, it is not a remote development position.\n\nOur technology environment is evolving rapidly. Existing applications are largely custom-built, while new development is increasingly incorporating AI-assisted software engineering and modern development tools.\n\nThis is an opportunity for someone who enjoys learning new technologies, solving difficult problems, and having significant involvement in how systems are designed and built.\n\nJob Type: Full-time\n\nPay: $28.00 - $36.00 per hour\n\nBenefits:\n* 401(k)\n* Dental insurance\n* Health insurance\n* Paid time off\n* Vision insurance\nCompensation Package:\n* Hourly pay\n* Weekly pay\n\nApplication Question(s):\n* Are you comfortable troubleshooting employee computers, hardware, network connectivity, and other general IT issues as needed?\n* Do you have hands-on experience using AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, OpenAI Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar tools for software development?\n\nExperience:\n* PHP: 3 years (Required)\n* MySQL or MariaDB: 3 years (Required)\n* Javascript: 3 years (Preferred)\n* node.js: 1 year (Preferred)\n* Linux: 2 years (Required)\n\nAbility to Commute:\n* Phoenix, AZ 85021 (Required)\n\nWork Location: In person","company":"Iconic Results","rawCompany":"iconic results","city":"Phoenix","state":"AZ","isRemote":false,"isActive":false,"createdAt":"2026-08-31T10:31:04.307Z","occupations":[{"code":"15-1252.00","title":"Software Developers","slug":"software-developers"},{"code":"15-1299.08","title":"Computer Systems Engineers/Architects","slug":"computer-systems-engineers-architects"},{"code":"15-1211.00","title":"Computer Systems Analysts","slug":"computer-systems-analysts"}],"industries":[{"code":"541511","title":"Custom Computer Programming Services","slug":"custom-computer-programming-services"},{"code":"513210","title":"Software Publishers","slug":"software-publishers"},{"code":"541512","title":"Computer Systems Design Services","slug":"computer-systems-design-services"}],"jobPosting":{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"JobPosting","title":"Software & Systems Engineer","description":"Software & Systems Engineer\n\n*Full-Time | On-Site | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM*\n\nWe are seeking an experienced *Software & Systems Engineer* who is equally comfortable developing software, debugging existing applications, working with databases, troubleshooting Linux servers, and solving technical problems across a business environment.\n\nThis is not a narrowly defined programming position.
