Senior Engineer, High Voltage Cable Design
Description of Duties and Responsibilities
Cable System Design: Design comprehensive cable system solutions, including accessories, link boxes, fiber optic components, grounding details, and bonding schemes for voltage classes ranging from 69kV to 500kV. Utilize advanced computer programs and analytical techniques to meet project and bid requirements.
Subject Matter Expertise: Serve as a subject matter expert on the electro-mechanical behavior of HV/EHV cable systems to support installations and field applications.
Documentation and Specifications: Lead the preparation of specifications, proposals, contracts, and safety documents in collaboration with Sales & Marketing and Project Management teams. Continuously improve existing processes to enhance efficiency.
Manufacturing Support: Assist in the production cycle by creating testing plans, leading design handover meetings, and solving issues on the manufacturing floor. Provide recommendations to facilitate communication between production, installation, and customers.
Research & Development: Act as the principal investigator or lead a team of engineers in research and development projects, including planning, timeline forecasting, budget management, and logistics coordination using the “Stage Gate” process.
Customer Interaction and Presentations: Represent the HV engineering group in meetings and conferences, providing technical presentations to customers and at industry forums. Resolve technical issues and develop action plans in collaboration with customers.
Mentorship and Training: Train and assist junior engineers with their projects and calculations, fostering growth within the team.
Safety Promotion: Advocate for workplace safety and promote Southwire’s Culture of ZERO on all project sites.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Education: Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field, with 10 years of relevant experience. A combination of education, experience, and demonstrated accomplishments may also be considered.
Technical Knowledge: Extensive understanding of underground power transmission engineering and related disciplines. Proficiency in ICEA, AEIC, IEC, and IEEE standards, as well as in thermal, mechanical, and electrical field calculations.
Engineering Skills: Ability to read and analyze engineering drawings, with strong technical writing and communication skills. Experience with customer interaction and internal collaboration.
Software Expertise: Proficiency in software tools such as Cymcap, Comsol Multiphysics, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Matlab, PSCAD, Pull Planner, and Microsoft Office Suite. Knowledge of programming languages like Visual Basic for coding spreadsheets and macros in Excel.
Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of the power transmission cable industry, markets, and cable materials testing processes.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $155,000.00 per year
