The operation encompasses services 24 hours a day, seven days a week serving up to 250 guests nightly as well as daytime services. The service population includes adult men and women. This position is responsible for day-to-day operations of their shift and program using a Trauma Informed Service Model. The program provides basic needs services for individuals experiencing homelessness in Anchorage including a warm, safe place to stay, meals, laundry, clothing, storage, medical clinic, medical respite, and more. In addition, shelters provide ladder-up services to include case management, employment and training, resource and referral, and individual advocacy all in an effort to help individuals work towards and achieve permanent stability.\nREQUIRED COMPETENCIES\n\nMust be able to maintain program/participant/agency confidentiality and treat everyone with dignity and respect. Must have the ability to establish and maintain professional boundaries with staff, program participants and volunteers. Demonstrated leadership, dependability, maturity, creativity, discretion, initiative, and flexibility. Ability and desire to work with a variety of people to carry out the mission and purpose of the program. Ability to provide supervision and be a team member with program staff, agency personnel, and community service providers. Ability to work with and advocate for people experiencing homelessness. Ability to handle crisis situations with minimum supervision. Excellent interpersonal skills required. Ability to work alone or as part of a team. Commitment to provide services in a manner that is welcoming and appropriate to the special needs of those affected by trauma.\nSkills Required: Committed to collaboration and shared decision-making is a key part of leadership style. Desire to work with a variety of people, situations, and challenges to carry out the mission and purpose of the program. Demonstrated leadership, dependability, flexibility, and initiative. Must react effectively in crowded and stressful situations. Ability to provide supervision and training to volunteers, interact positively with other CSS staff members and clients. Appropriate interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Team building skills. Computer skills in most Microsoft Office applications. Logistics skills in order to facilitate smooth operations of the shelter.\nRESPONSIBILITIES\n\nService Delivery\nStrategize, in conjunction with other staff and plan service delivery at Brother Francis Shelter.\nEvaluate program policies and practices regularly in coordination with the program director; this information is used to inform and adjust practices on a regular basis.\nShelter Operations\nPerform and oversee daily facility needs of the shelter.\nCoordinate maintenance issues with facilities department.\nMonitor inventory of program supplies within budget. Ensure adequate levels of supplies, including janitorial, kitchen, laundry, and office supplies.\nManage all supplies, keep storage areas in good order, rotating stock. Keep list of needs updated, share extra or unneeded supplies with other CSS programs.\nOversee clothing and move out closets, customer service, laundry, and kitchen operations.\nOversee storage of guest luggage, including daily and overnight, long term, and non-case management lockers.\nEnsure cleanliness of physical facility, including daily, weekly, monthly, and annual cleaning operations. (May be in conjunction with Facilities Department)\nEnsure effectiveness of operational cleaning procedures, including blankets, mats, towels, and kitchen.\nEnsure daily maintenance of facility and laundry systems with special regard to health and dignity concerns.\nPick up supplies as needed.\nEnsure the campus grounds are clean and free of debris.\nOn call duties to ensure full staff coverage on shifts.\nImmediately report serious personnel, shelter, or media incidents to director.\nAttend staff and management meetings.\nSet up and take down for special events.\nSupervision\nDirect supervision of staff. Includes recruiting, selecting, training, scheduling, disciplining, and terminations (in conjunction with the Program Director and HR department).\nEnsure all staff have structured, strengths-based supervision from someone who is trained in understanding trauma.\nManage daily shift operations, ensure adequate and appropriate staffing, and cover shifts when necessary.\nEnsure shift staff are trained in effectively identifying and addressing client needs.\nEnsure personnel are informed of and adhere to all CSS/BFS policies, as well as Department of Labor regulations.\nProgram Services/Administration\nIn conjunction with the Program Director and other Program Managers, evaluate, revise and implement program policies and procedures.\nProduce statistical and narrative program reports for grants, CQI, and other needs.\nIn conjunction with Program Director, engage with Bean’s Café staff on campus issues.\nUnder the direction of the Program Director, act as liaison with Anchorage Police Department and Anchorage Safety Center.\nReview and forward Critical Incident Reports as necessary. Provide statistics as requested.\nAssist in supporting the daily operations of the BFS/SCF Caring Clinic.\nOversee regular clearance of the client medication box and facilitate disposal of medications with clinic staff.\nSupervise and help to develop GSS Lead positions.\nAssist Program Director with drafting and monitoring annual budget for relevant portions of the program. Adjust expenditures as necessary; code and authorize check requests.\nHandle client issues such as guests appealing time out.\nAct as an advocate on behalf of the population served and/or individual clients when necessary.\nEnsure the annual Point-in-time homeless count is accurate.\nEnsure all staff are trained and reports are correct and timely.\nImmediately report serious personnel, shelter, or media incidents to director.\nOther duties as assigned.\nQUALIFICATIONS\n\nMinimum Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in social work, sociology, psychology, counseling, business, or a related field. Four (4) years of experience can be substituted for the required education.\nMinimum Experience Requirement: One (1) year of relevant work experience with supervisory and management duties required.\nA relevant combination of education and experience may be considered.\nWORK ENVIRONMENT\n\nWork environment: Duties are most frequently completed within a congregate emergency shelter for up to 200 people experiencing homelessness with occasional meetings at other CSS locations including but not limited to the 3rd Avenue Resource and Navigation Center and the CSS Main Office at 4600 Debarr. Rarely, work is completed in a community setting. Remote work completed rarely.\nWork is performed in a congregant shelter for people experiencing homelessness. Frequently required to stand and walk for duration of shift. Occasional driving is required. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Frequently sitting or standing at a desk for several hours at a time.\nTravel: Travel out of Alaska is rare.
