The on-call Event Explainers are on the frontlines of the Museum Rentals staff, interacting with Special Event guests during rental events and facilitating guests’ interaction with exhibits. They are also responsible for exhibit moves and monitoring the safety of guests and the museum. This on-call position reports to the Museum Rentals Manager.\n\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\n\nEvent Setup Duties\n\nDraw a diagram, mark and photograph exhibits before moves begin\nUse proper equipment and safe procedures to relocate exhibits in the Exploratorium galleries and other individual exhibits as requested\nPlace ropes and stanchions throughout the museum as requested\nTurn on exhibits and turn off overhead lights\n\nEvent Duties\n\nGreet visitors\nOversee all areas open to the public\nInitiate informal conversation with museums’ visitors about exhibits\nConduct demonstrations, assist visitors in using and understanding the exhibits\nAnswer questions about the exhibits and the museum\nSupport other Explainers by filling in as needed and through good, regular communication\nIdentify, troubleshoot, and report malfunctioning exhibits\n\nEvent Strike Duties\n\nUse proper equipment and safe procedures to return exhibits in the Exploratorium galleries and other individual exhibits as requested\n\nGeneral Duties\n\nPerform light security and crowd control\nCommunicate with all event staff via radio\nBe prepared to initiate Emergency Response Procedures as needed\nOther related duties as assigned\n\nMINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS\n\n1 year experience as a High School Explainer or 2 months experience as a Field Trip Explainer\nExperience as an Exploratorium Explainer required\nAbility to work late nights and weekends\nAbility and desire to teach guests of all ages in a non-classroom setting\nAbility to facilitate interaction with exhibits and the scientific principles they demonstrate\nUnderstanding of Exploratorium Explainer Demonstrations\nOutgoing, people person who is good at reading a situation and responding appropriately\nAble to exercise good judgment (think on your feet)\n\nPHYSICAL REQUIREMENT\n\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
