This position is considered at a beginner level.\n\nPrimary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties\nCleans and prepares construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.\nMeasures, marks, and records openings and distances to lay out areas where construction work will be performed.\nControls traffic passing near, in, and around work zones.\nRemoves and replaces track and track components (e.g., ties, rails, bars, etc.)\nSlides and aligns tie plates.\nObserves condition of tracks, track beds, and track right of way to detect and report problems or defects.\nDigs holes and trenches.\nUtilizes basic hand tools (e.g., sledgehammer, pick, track wrench, spike maul etc.) and follows basic tool maintenance.\nComplies with all company and railroad safety rules, practices, and regulations.\nRequired Skills and Qualifications\nA minimum of 0-12 months of relevant construction experience\nAbility to understand and follow safety rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.\nPhysical Requirements and Working Conditions\nDriver’s license, reliable transportation, and available to travel.\nWorks outdoors at construction sites\nPerforms physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending, and handling of materials, equipment, and tools\nUses hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble objects and tools\nLifts, pushes, pulls, and carries heavy objects, machinery, and tools up to 50 pounds\nExposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather\nExposed to loud noise\nMay be exposed to live track/trains and high voltage\nMust wear appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection, as required by the company.\nCompany Overview\n\nThis job description is not intended to represent a complete, comprehensive list of all duties and responsibilities that may be required in this position.
