In this position you will support the design and implementation of a cohesive enterprise data ontology across a diverse portfolio of projects and systems. This role is central to transforming fragmented and unstructured data into a unified, well-modeled data ecosystem that supports analytics, interoperability, and long-term scalability. If you have strong database design expertise to support relating data across systems join our team and work closely with architects, data engineers, and domain stakeholders to define consistent data structures, normalize and map disparate datasets, and contribute to a shared enterprise data vision. This position is located in Dahlgren, VA.\nSCCI offers a comprehensive and competitive benefits package including Health, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability benefits, 401k with Company Match, time off consisting of 2 weeks of paid vacation, 48 hours of sick/personal leave, and 11 paid Holidays.\nResponsibilities:\nDatabase Design & Modeling\nDesign, implement, and maintain relational and non-relational database schemas aligned with enterprise data standards\nDevelop logical and physical data models that support scalability, performance, and maintainability\nNormalize and optimize table structures while balancing performance considerations\nEnterprise Data Ontology Development\nContribute to the definition and evolution of an enterprise-wide data architecture\nMap data elements across systems into a unified conceptual model\nDefine relationships, hierarchies, and semantic consistency across datasets\nCollaborate with stakeholders to standardize naming conventions and data definitions\nStructured & Unstructured Data Integration\nAnalyze unstructured and semi-structured data (JSON, logs, documents, etc.) and design strategies to structure and integrate it\nDevelop transformation pipelines to align disparate data sources into cohesive schemas\nSupport metadata tagging and classification efforts\nData Transformation & ETL Support\nBuild and maintain a pipeline to extract, transform, load (ETL/ELT) and cleanse data\nEnsure data integrity, consistency, and traceability across systems\nSupport data lineage and auditability requirements\nCross-System Data Alignment\nWork across multiple project teams to reconcile differences in data structures and definitions\nIdentify duplication, inconsistency, and gaps in existing data models\nPropose and implement standardized solutions\nPerformance & Optimization\nTune queries, indexes, and database configurations for performance and efficiency\nMonitor database health and implement improvements as needed\nDocumentation & Governance\nMaintain clear documentation of schemas, data models, and ontology mappings\nSupport data governance initiatives, including data quality standards and validation rules\nContribute to best practices and development standards\nEssential Skills and Experience:\nMust be a U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret Security Clearance\nBachelor's (BS) Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering, or Math; Or five (5) years technical experience with information management in lieu of degree\nThree (3) - Six (6) years of experience in database development\nStrong proficiency in SQL and relational database design (e.g., PostgreSQL, SQL Server, Oracle, MySQL)\nExperience designing normalized schemas and understanding tradeoffs with denormalization\nFamiliarity with handling semi-structured/unstructured data (e.g., JSON, XML, document stores)\nExperience with ETL/ELT processes and data transformation pipelines\nSolid understanding of data modeling concepts (ER diagrams, dimensional modeling, etc.)\nAbility to translate business/domain concepts into structured data representations\nPreferred Skills and Experience:\nActive Secret Security Clearance\nExperience contributing to or working with data ontologies, semantic models, or knowledge graphs\nFamiliarity with data cataloging, metadata management, or data governance tools\nExposure to NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Cassandra, etc.) and hybrid data architectures\nExperience with cloud data platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)\nExperience with Docker containerization\nKnowledge of data lineage, data quality frameworks, and master data management (MDM)\nBasic scripting or programming skills (Python, Bash Script, etc.) for data processing\nSCCI is committed to providing a comprehensive and competitive benefits package to meet the needs of Employees and their families.
