Nutrition Services Team Leader

Nutrition Service Team LeaderPlan for, prepare, and serve the students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of friendliness, efficiency, and cleanliness.Essential duties and responsibilities include:Prepare food according to planned menus and tested recipes.Complete daily records, deposits, and money entries.Determine the quantities of food prepared daily.Communicate with kitchen employees, District staff, students, and community to arrange for and serve nutritious meals at assigned District schools.Supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in the safe and proper preparation of food.Supervise and instruct kitchen personnel in safe, proper, and efficient use of all kitchen equipment.Order all necessary supplies in compliance with the order schedule.Check in food shipments by verifying orders and signing off on invoices.Check equipment to ensure it is in safe working condition and notify the Nutrition office when repairs or replacements are needed.Maintain kitchen employee time records and the monthly inventory of kitchen supplies.Instruct new kitchen employees in performing their assigned tasks.Perform other duties as assigned.Education and training:High school diploma or equivalent.One year of experience in food service; experience with school nutrition programs preferred.Skills, knowledge, and equipment:Oral and written communication skills.English language skills.Mathematical skills include basic calculations and application of math concepts.Supervisory skills.Personal computer and keyboarding skills.Customer service and public relations skills and professionalism.Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Knowledge of nutrition services.Knowledge of child nutrition and Health Department guidelines preferred.Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions, use time efficiently, demonstrate attention to detail, follow instructions and respond to management directions.Ability to work with students with diverse backgrounds and abilities.Ability to promote and follow Board of Education policies, Superintendent policies, and building and department procedures.Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the nutrition services director.Supervisory/technical responsibility:This job has supervisory responsibilities.Judgment and decision making:Work is assigned by the supervisor. Requires independent judgment, nutrition knowledge, and supervisory skills to properly calculate needed food, ensure preparation of nutritious food, direct the work of kitchen employees, and maintain accurate records. Decision making is guided by health department, federal, and District guidelines, policies, and procedures. Decision making requires collaboration with the supervisor when necessary. Errors in decision making could result in an unhealthy cafeteria environment, insufficient food supply, and errors in bookkeeping. The supervisor is occasionally involved in decision-making.Diversity of duties:Duties may require cross training in one or more of the following: food preparation line, operating cash register, maintaining kitchen equipment.Physical demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and regularly lift and/or move up to 25 - 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.Work environment:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, and the risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, or airborne particles, and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.Salary range is $19.73 to $22.32 per hour, with single benefits. Up to five years of similar work experience may be granted.
