The RN prevents illness and injury and alleviates suffering through the diagnosis and treatment of human responses. The RN advocates in the care of individuals and families. The RN is responsible for compliance with all standards of practice and professional development in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and nursing policies. The RN promotes a caring and healing environment for patient-centered care. The RN assesses, plans, delegates, coordinates, implements, and evaluates nursing care in managing a group of patients. The RN serves as a primary nurse and/or accountable nurse when designated by unit assignment. Factors related to safety, effectiveness, competency, cost, and impact are considered in all decisions. The RN educates patients and families in health promotion and disease management using available resources. A working knowledge of pharmacology is utilized, and medications are administered safely according to policy. The RN shares responsibility for productivity and effective resource utilization including staffing, time management, and supplies. Compliance with all nursing practice standards and regulatory requirements is required. The RN actively participates in and supports the nursing governance model. The RN engages in professional development and completes all mandatory education requirements. Integration of nursing research and current evidence into practice is expected. The RN provides a supportive learning environment for new employees and students. The RN performs duties related to the Charge Nurse or Shift Coordinator role when assigned. Participation in the Clinical Ladder Program is encouraged as knowledge and expertise develop. The RN will perform other duties as assigned. Quality care and a commitment to safety and risk management are essential. Strong collaboration and communication skills are required. Judgment and critical thinking, along with organizational skills, are necessary. Problem-solving abilities and reliability are crucial to the role.
