Laboratory Technician

The Sample Prep Technician supports laboratory operations by preparing samples for analytical testing, maintaining laboratory equipment and facilities, and assisting with material testing activities. This role is critical to ensuring accurate testing results, efficient laboratory workflows, and compliance with safety and quality standards. Primary responsibilities include sample preparation and handling, laboratory support and maintenance, and material testing assistance. The position contributes directly to the organization's ability to deliver reliable testing and analysis services to clients across multiple industries.Key ResponsibilitiesPrepare samples for analytical chemistry and material testing in accordance with laboratory procedures and quality standards.Receive, label, process, and organize incoming samples for testing.Perform physical property testing of materials as assigned.Provide courier and transportation support for samples, materials, and laboratory-related deliveries.Assist analysts and technicians with testing activities, data collection, and laboratory workflows.Perform basic electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and hardware repairs on laboratory equipment and facilities.Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and operational readiness.Support and maintain the laboratory's chemical waste management and disposal program in accordance with applicable regulations.Follow established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and quality assurance protocols.Review and provide feedback on laboratory procedures and process improvements.Assist with inventory management and laboratory supply organization.Communicate effectively with internal team members and external customers regarding testing activities and sample status.Support safety initiatives and ensure compliance with all laboratory safety requirements.Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.Minimum Education & Experience RequirementsHigh School Diploma or GED required.Associate degree or technical degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, Laboratory Science, Industrial Technology, or a related field preferred.Previous experience in a laboratory, manufacturing, industrial, environmental, mechanical, or technical environment preferred.Experience working with mechanical, electrical, or computer systems preferred.Experience handling samples, materials, testing equipment, or laboratory processes is a plus.Special RequirementsMust maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.Must have reliable transportation.Must be able to pass pre-employment drug screening and background checks.Must be eligible to work in the United States.Must be willing to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).Ability to lift, carry, move, and transport materials weighing up to 50 pounds.Ability to stand and work on feet for extended periods.Willingness to work overtime when business needs require.Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesKnowledge of laboratory safety practices and chemical handling procedures.Ability to follow detailed instructions, SOPs, and quality control requirements.Basic understanding of sample preparation and laboratory processes.Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and hardware repair techniques.Proficiency with email, computer systems, and basic software applications.Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy.Ability to interpret test results and procedural requirements.Excellent verbal and written communication skills.Strong organizational and time-management skills.Ability to work independently and as part of a team.Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.Additional Desired CharacteristicsExperience in an analytical laboratory, environmental laboratory, materials testing laboratory, or industrial setting.Familiarity with quality assurance and quality control (QA/QC) programs.Experience supporting laboratory equipment maintenance activities.Knowledge of chemical waste handling and disposal practices.Customer service experience in a technical or laboratory environment.Demonstrated interest in science, engineering, testing, or laboratory operations.Ability to learn new technical procedures and laboratory techniques quickly.Work EnvironmentWork is performed primarily in a laboratory and industrial testing environment.Regular exposure to chemicals, testing equipment, and laboratory materials.Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and movement throughout the facility.Use of personal protective equipment is required.Occasional interaction with customers, vendors, and external stakeholders.Daylight shift schedule with overtime opportunities based on workload and project requirements.Other DutiesThis job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the position.
