Position Summary:
Utilize lean manufacturing principles and predictive and productive maintenance systems to support the achievement of the site’s business goals, objectives and financial performance. Oversee the service, repair and maintenance of all production and support equipment, including building repairs. Ensure that all production and support equipment is operating efficiently and safely.
Job Duties:
Follows the Quality Dairy Company Code of Excellence
Hire (in conjunction with management), train (competency training/testing) and evaluate all maintenance personnel
Identify and initiate needed training to improve personnel where appropriate
Assures New Employee Orientation is completed for assigned job
Effectively and timely completes appraisals for department personnel
Actively participates in and communicates with the management team and department personnel
Coordinate all maintenance activities, assigning appropriate personnel as needed
Measures and maintains a ‘lean manufacturing’ environment that achieves desired results in the areas of safety, quality of work, employee productivity, cost and employee relations on a daily basis
Prioritize maintenance activities based on OEE results
Log all mechanical equipment by component and maintain applicable parts inventory
Maintain Preventive Maintenance program for all production equipment
Maintain and organize all necessary operational paperwork for each piece of equipment
Identify, research and request replacement parts using Purchase Order protocol
Maintain repair spending and department labor within budget
Monitor and react to Key Manufacturing Metrics performance including ‘Machine Availability’, ‘Performance Efficiency’, ‘Quality Rate’ and ‘Maintenance Costs’
Maintain all equipment to governmental and local safety guidelines
Actively participate in and contribute to corrective action and continuous improvement activities
Generate ideas and opportunity for improvement and cost reductions and propose to operational management
Participate in Return-on-Investment calculations for proposed spending activity as necessary
Assures work areas, tools and supplies are clean, organized and secure
Essential skills, Abilities and Physical Demands:
Demonstrated ability to lead people and get results through effective time management and employee utilization
Thorough knowledge of machine set-up and operation
Supervision, orientation, training, development and retention, performance review and discipline
Measurement of shift performance to budget, goals and standards
Ability to maintain systems to assure continuous improvement with a focus on quality, attention to detail, problem analysis and resolution
Inventory management
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, stand, walk, bend, twist, climb, lift and pull repetitively
Exposure to temperature and noise extremes
Ability to remain flexible to cover weekends, holidays and a 7 day a week operation
Must be highly motivated, able to work independently and possess a strong desire to learn and improve
Ability to design and layout detailed instruction for suppliers and maintenance staff
Education/Experience Requirements:
High school diploma
Minimum of 5 years ‘hands on’ experience with a demonstrated understanding of electrical and mechanical repairs and installation
Advanced training in HVAC preferred
Literacy with PC and MS Office a plus
Programmable Logic control (PLC) knowledge preferred
Working knowledge of pertinent OSHA, EPA and MIOSHA practices
