Roanoke County Public Schools is currently seeking applications for Building Custodian Substitutes. This position is either a 4 hr. /day or 8 hr./day depending on need at $14.00/hour, not eligible for benefits.Position Description/Job SummaryThe Building Custodian Substitute handles maintaining the school buildings and grounds.Responsibilities/Duties/Functions/TasksKnowledge of and including contents and location of safety data sheet (SDS) material and book.Cleaning Classrooms to include empty trash, empty pencil sharpeners, vacuum, dry mop, wet mop, wipe desk and chairs clean, damp wipe erasure boards, dust rooms, clean walls, replace empty paper towel rolls & toilet paper, clean windows, clean trash cans inside and out, clean counter tops and fronts of cabinets, clean towel boxes & soap dispensers, refill soap dispensers, check and replace lights, clean chalk trays, clean desktops, wipe windowsillsCleaning Halls to include spot cleaning, cleaning vents, cleaning water fountainsCleaning Restrooms to include clean sinks, clean and refill towel dispensers, clean and refill soap dispensers, clean underneath soap dispensers, clean toilets and urinals, and clean bottom or commodes, behind commodes, partitions, doors, and framersAdditional assignments to include empty barrels, clean tops of vending machines, set up equipment for activities, grounds maintenance, snow removal, building checks, work overtime as requestedPerform any & all special assignments requested by the school.Professionalism And Abilities Practice confidentiality always. Exhibit manual dexterity to enter data into a computer and phone system; to see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids. Possess sufficient strength and agility to move or lift 50 pounds repetitively, to bend, to stoop, to walk, to reach overhead, and to use repetitive motion in the same position for extended periods of time. During the summer and holiday breaks, extensive cleaning takes place and will involve the following working conditions: stripping and refinishing floors, detailing restrooms, and overall building wipe down. All workers are assigned these tasks. The floor stripper requires a twisting movement to use and weighs approx. 80 lbs, it is needed to move furniture to refinish floors. Overhead cleaning of windows is typically done at this time the worker may be required to use a utility ladder, approximately 6-8'. Major cleaning and refinishing floors are incorporated into the full day. Physical requirements include standing, walking, climbing, bending, balancing, lifting and pushing arms, hands and whole body. Moving furniture, mops, brooms; cleaning windows. Cleaning higher and lower areas in offices and rooms as previously outlined; to retrieve and return varying small supplies. Stripping & buffing machines weighing approx. 70-80 lbs.; garbage barrels, 5-20 lbs.
