Crisis Intervention Specialist

The Crisis Intervention Specialist (CIS) is a role model who provides support to staff during behavioral interventions and monitors staff/consumer interactions for optimum choice making, social development and goal setting opportunities. Schedule varies, Full-Time, 40 hours RESPONSIBILITIES: E- Connotes Essential Functions E-1 Use a proactive approach to offer and actively encourage consumer choice making; directly assist in utilizing physical redirection techniques, as per OPWDD SCIP certification and individualized adaptive behavior programs. E-2 Receive and complete coverage assignment from the Assistant Director of Clinic; assign coverage as needed. E-3 Be available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. E-4 Assist in the planning, formulation, implementation, data collection, modification and review of consumer adaptive behavior goal plans; observe their implementation and offer recommendations. E-5 Accurately maintain documentation in all logs: behavioral observation, interpersonal relationships, nursing, medication, exposure control, communication, first aid and neighborhood reaction; review, consult and notify other programs (i.e., residential, care provider, etc.) and departments (i.e., clinical, etc.), as necessary. 6- Promote independence by observing, teaching and supervising the consumer during all daily routines: arrival, classroom/program/leisure activities, self care routines, community centers, recreation, community integration trips, program implementation, lunch, departure; actively participate in these activities; assist assigned staff. 7- Have knowledge of CFA components and conduct consumer-focused meetings and reviews. 8- Maintain DRIVER AUTHORIZATION status as per IGHL policy. 9- Adhere to IGHL and OPWDD policy, including Safety and Code of Conduct, and complete forms as warranted: fire safety and emergency procedures, behavior reports, reportable SCIP incident forms, time sheets, time off requests, tuition reimbursement, physical complaint reports and incident reports. 10- Participate at staff meetings, in-service training and agency committees; request supplies for programmatic needs; provide coverage in other program areas, as needed. 11- Carry out all other responsibilities as directed by management. REQUIREMENTS A. High School Diploma/GED B. 3 years experience working with disabled population, including 1 year with behaviorally challenged consumers. C. Valid NYS driver’s license D. Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.
