The ideal candidate brings progressive midstream accounting experience with a strong understanding of natural gas gathering, pipeline, and gas processing accounting. Experience performing and/or overseeing gas plant accounting is highly preferred.WHY THIS POSITION?Reporting directly to the CFO, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to broaden your accounting leadership responsibilities while preparing for future advancement into the Controller role.RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Reporting & Monthly CloseLead the monthly financial close process and ensure timely, accurate financial reporting.Review monthly accruals, journal entries, and account reconciliations.Review revenue accounting and invoicing related to pipelines, natural gas processing facilities, and disposal systems.Coordinate monthly accounting activities with outsourced accounting resources.Accounting Operations & Process ImprovementOversee outsourced accounting functions, including accounts payable, plant accounting, treasury, and related accounting activities.Develop, document, and improve accounting processes, internal controls, and financial procedures that support continued company growth.Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, strengthen controls, and streamline accounting operations.Audit, Compliance & ReportingOrganize audit schedules and supporting documentation while serving as the primary contact for the annual external audit.Maintain organized accounting records and documentation to support external audits, tax reporting, and ongoing financial compliance.Assist with special accounting and financial reporting projects as assigned.Cross-Functional CollaborationServe as the primary liaison between Accounting and Operations to ensure accurate financial reporting and effective communication.Partner with the CFO and operational leadership on financial analysis, process improvements, and strategic initiatives.Support projects related to business growth, acquisitions, and operational expansion as needed.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree in Accounting required. CPA preferred.Minimum of seven years of progressive accounting experience within the oil and gas industry.Progressive midstream accounting experience with a strong understanding of natural gas gathering, pipeline, and gas processing accounting.Experience performing and/or overseeing gas plant accounting is highly preferred.Demonstrated experience leading monthly financial close and financial reporting activities.Public accounting experience is a plus.Experience working with external auditors and coordinating annual audits.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESStrong technical accounting knowledge and financial reporting skills.Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables and data analysis.Demonstrated ability and willingness to remain actively involved in day-to-day accounting activities while providing leadership and oversight.Comfortable working in a lean, entrepreneurial organization where responsibilities extend beyond traditional accounting functions.Proven ability to improve accounting processes, strengthen internal controls, and support organizational growth.Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.Proactive, self-motivated team player with a roll-up-your-sleeves attitude.Desire and demonstrated potential to grow into the Controller role.ABOUT J MARFor more than 30 years, J MAR & Associates has specialized exclusively in recruiting professionals across the oil & gas industry.
