Responsible for ensuring the technical solutions on a project will meet the project requirements including project scope, project metrics, budget, and schedule. Lead, guide, and direct a team of mechanical engineers on the project to ensure project goals are met.\nESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS\nResearches and analyzes data including customer request for quote, customer specifications, and PMD’s proposal to develop or determine feasibility of design or application.\nConcept layout of complete system and capitalize on common design for efficiency.\nWork within time constraints, schedule constraints, and overall machine budget constraints.\nWork in a collaborative environment to make sure the designs developed are the most cost effective and will meet the customer requirements.\nDevelop a plan to meet the project schedule and budget. Collaborate with the engineers to provide accurate ETC and completion dates.\nDetermine and provide job breakdown to Project Manager.\nManages design budgets and scheduling for project. Reviews and reallocates resources with input from the Mechanical Engineering Manager as needed.\nAct as the Project Engineer for projects ranging from $100K - $10M.\nDevelop/review concepts to confirm the design will meet required performance metrics including cycle time, yield, uptime, CPK and Gage R&R.\nDevelop timing chart to ensure contracted cycle time can be maintained.\nDesign mechanisms, stations, machines using 3D modeling software (SolidWorks).\nSpecifies and obtains competitive quotes from multiple vendors for major purchased components.\nCompare quotes received to project budget identifying discrepancies and communicate those discrepancies to Project Management for resolution.\nCreate detailed fabrication drawings for all custom designed parts.\nCreate detailed assembly drawings identifying each individual component.\nCreate a complete Bill of Material for each design/station.\nRelease completed designs to Project Management\nSupports fabrication, assembly, debug, and validation activities to ensure design conforms to customer requirements and specifications.\nObserve safety procedures.\nOTHER DUTIES\nMaintain a clean and orderly work area.\nAny other task assigned by management within scope of position, federal and state regulations.\nRequirements:\nEDUCATION & EXPERIENCE\nBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.\n7 years’ experience in designing automated assembly equipment.\n2+ years as a Project Engineer I.\nGeneral knowledge of manufacturing process preferred.\nProficient in Solidworks, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, and Excel.\nKnowledge of GD&T and EPDM.\nIn depth knowledge of automated assembly and test machines, including power and free, dial, synchronous systems.\nKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES\nEffective verbal and written communication.\nAbility to read, analyze, and interpret general technical procedures.\nAbility to present technical solutions to others with varying levels of technical understanding.\nAbility to write technical specifications and summaries.\nAbility to calculate engineering formulas including deflection, moment of inertia, stress, along with applying concepts of algebra and geometry.\nOrganized\nDetail oriented\nAbility to work independently and to collaborate on a team.\nCreative/Innovative\nTime management skills\nAbility to take direction\nReliable\nApproachable\nWilling to mento new department members.\nStrong skills in conceptualization, problem solving and debug procedures.\nAble to critique and improve concepts for complex automated systems.\nAbility to apply mechanical engineering principals.\nAbility to interpret instructions which are written, oral or drawn.\nPHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
