The Controller will set standards, implement controls, and ensure alignment with U.S. GAAP, FAR, CAS, and audit requirements.\nThe ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with a hands-on leadership style. They excel at building structure in complex organizations, promoting standardization, and integrating new acquisitions into a unified accounting environment.\nThis position is on-site in Fairfax, VA.\nDuties and Responsibilities\nLeadership & Standardization:\nLead and coordinate accounting activities across all business units to ensure consistent policies, procedures, and internal controls.\nDevelop, document, and enforce company-wide accounting standards in compliance with GAAP, FAR, and CAS\nResponsible for managing annual financial statement audit and tax return in conjunction with 3rd party accounting firm. Key duties include ensuring execution, communicating with audit firm, managing outstanding items and adhering to the audit/tax timelines.\nPartner with business-units to maintain uniform practices for close, reporting, and compliance.\nDrive initiatives that improve process efficiency, automation, and data integrity across entities and systems.\nPromote a culture of accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement within the accounting organization.\nCompliance, Controls & Reporting:\nMaintain oversight of corporate internal controls and ensure readiness for external and government audits, including DCAA.\nOversee preparation and support of indirect cost rate calculations, incurred cost submissions, and related FAR/CAS documentation.\nEnsure all financial reporting is accurate, timely, and compliant with regulatory and contractual obligations.\nPartner with the CFO to assess accounting risks and strengthen compliance frameworks.\nTechnical Accounting & Integration:\nProvide technical accounting guidance for complex or judgmental areas including ASC 606 revenue recognition, cost allocation, capitalization, and project-based accounting.\nLead accounting aspects of acquisition integration, aligning systems, controls, and reporting structures.\nReview and consolidate results across business units, ensuring alignment and integrity of company-wide financial data.\nCollaborate with FP&A and operations to connect accounting data with performance metrics and management reporting.\nSystems & Process Improvement:\nChampion effective use of ERP and reporting tools; ensure consistent configuration and data standards across locations.\nIdentify automation opportunities and workflow improvements to shorten close cycles and enhance reporting transparency.\nMaintain awareness of evolving GAAP, FAR, and CAS requirements and communicate updates to accounting leadership.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting or related field\n15+ years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree OR 13+ years with a Master’s degree\nMinimum of 10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a controllership or senior accounting leadership role\nDemonstrated experience implementing company-wide accounting standards or harmonizing practices across multiple entities\nExperience in project-based or manufacturing accounting environments\nProficiency with Microsoft Dynamics or comparable ERP systems\nAbility to travel up to 10% of the time\nPreferred Qualifications\nCertified Public Accountant (CPA)\nStrong knowledge of FAR Part 31, CAS, and indirect rate development\nM&A integration experience\nBackground in both public and private accounting\nBenefits\nHired applicants may be eligible for benefits including but not limited to:\nHealth benefits\nMedical\nDental\nVision\nBasic life with AD&D\nShort term disability\nLong term disability\nAncillary (Voluntary life with AD&D, accident, critical illness, hospital, and pet)\nSpending accounts (HSA, FSA, and DCFSA)\nPaid time off\nHolidays\n401(k) (including company match)\nTuition reimbursement\nLeaves (Parental, maternity, and military)\nAnnual discretionary bonus (for eligible roles)\n\nTrident Systems is an affirmative action and equal opportunity employer.
