Our team spans machine learning, robotics software, hardware engineering, and operations.ABOUT THE ROLEThe Robotics Technician handles the hands-on build, test, and field deployment of CloudChef's robotic systems. You will assemble and test robots and data-collection hardware in our lab, support prototype development, source parts and materials, and install and service systems at customer restaurant sites.This is the first dedicated position of its kind at CloudChef. Alongside the hands-on work, you will help set up the lab and the build documentation that hardware operations run on as we scale. The role is broad and suits someone who works independently, spots problems before being asked, and takes ownership of getting them resolved.Assembly and fabrication• Assemble robots, subassemblies, and data-collection hardware from engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials.• Perform electromechanical assembly including motor and actuator installation, sensor mounting and alignment, wiring harness fabrication, connector termination, and enclosure assembly.• Solder, rework, and modify electronic assemblies.• Operate 3D printers and perform basic machining, fabrication, and post-processing.• Build assembly jigs, fixtures, and test stations to designs provided by our engineering team, and suggest improvements based on what you learn building them.Test and quality• Execute test, calibration, and validation procedures on completed assemblies; record and organize results.• Run and modify basic Python test scripts; interpret output and identify failures.• Inspect incoming parts and perform final quality checks on completed units before release.• Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues to isolate root cause, and escalate with clear documentation when an issue falls outside your scope.• Flag recurring defects and workmanship issues to engineering.Field deployment and support• Support pre-deployment site assessments covering power, utilities, space, clearances, and network availability.• Install, mount, calibrate, and commission robotic systems at customer sites, including network and edge compute setup.• Run site acceptance checks and verify end-to-end system function before handover.• Act as first-line response for deployed systems: diagnose reported issues, perform remote and on-site recovery, and escalate with reproducible notes.• Perform preventive maintenance, service, and hardware upgrades in the field.Lab, inventory, and sourcing• Keep the lab organized and running: benches, tooling, test equipment, storage, and consumables.• Source and order components, tooling, materials, and outside services; obtain quotes and track lead times.• Maintain inventory: stock levels, reorder points, receiving and inspection, and serial number tracking of units and spares.• Prepare and kit hardware for deployments and shipments.Documentation• Maintain build records for each unit: steps completed, serial numbers, and test results.• Write and update work instructions and troubleshooting guides.• Keep a change log of part, revision, and supplier changes, and which units they affect.• Log lab and field issues in a shared tracker so problems stay visible and traceable.QUALIFICATIONSRequired• 1-3 years of hands-on experience in assembly, test, manufacturing, or prototype development. A degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, manufacturing, or electrical engineering is welcome but not required; equivalent trade, shop, or lab experience counts.• Hands-on experience with electromechanical systems: sensors, motors and actuators, wiring, and connectors.• Proficiency in soldering and electronics rework.• Prototyping experience including 3D printing and basic fabrication with hand and power tools.• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, schematics, and bills of materials, and to navigate CAD (SolidWorks, Onshape, or equivalent).• Comfort with standard test instrumentation: multimeters, power supplies, and oscilloscopes.• Basic Linux and Python: able to run scripts, read output, and troubleshoot.• Basic networking, or the willingness to learn it: IP addressing, routers, and firewalls.• Ability to work independently with minimal direction.
