General Summary The Registered Nurse (RN) delivers direct patient care by applying the nursing process with clinical expertise tailored to orthopedic surgical practice, while upholding the ANA Code of Ethics. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Adhere to established safety protocols including infection prevention, safe patient handling, and critical lab notifications to ensure a secure care environment. Maintain central lines and implement measures to prevent surgical site infections according to policy. Administer medications, perform nursing interventions, and provide patient and family education to promote quality outcomes. Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments to monitor status, enhance safety, and inform the healthcare team. Document all care activities and quality metrics to support clinical decisions and compliance. Communicate effectively with physicians and team members to optimize patient outcomes. Delegate tasks appropriately while fostering teamwork and accountability. Engage patients and families with timely communication and education to improve the care experience. Apply critical thinking and pursue continuing education to advance nursing skills. Education Graduation from an accredited nursing program is required. Experience At least one year of nursing experience is preferred. Requirements Current RN license valid in the state or compact licensure. Graduate nurses must obtain licensure within 90 days of graduation. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Mental and Physical Demands Requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 lbs., standing, walking, and various movements such as pushing, pulling, and twisting. Working Conditions Frequent exposure to infectious and communicable diseases through blood and bodily fluids. Occasional encounters with hostile individuals may occur.
