Position OverviewWe are seeking a hands-on and strategic Controller to lead the accounting and financial reporting function across our portfolio. This role will oversee all aspects of accounting operations, ensure accurate and timely financial reporting, and partner closely with ownership and senior leadership to support business decisions and long-term growth.The ideal candidate will bring strong real estate accounting expertise, a collaborative leadership style, and a mindset focused on continuous improvement and operational excellence. Key ResponsibilitiesOversee all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, and financial close processesLead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements across multiple property types and entitiesEnsure compliance with U.S. GAAP, internal policies, and partnership agreementsManage property-level and corporate accounting, including consolidations and intercompany transactionsOversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis in partnership with leadership and property management teamsSupport acquisitions, dispositions, and development projects, including financial integration and reportingCoordinate and manage external audits, tax filings, and relationships with auditors and third-party advisorsEstablish and maintain strong internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assetsDrive process improvements, system enhancements, and reporting efficienciesLead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of accountability and continuous growthProvide financial insights and recommendations to ownership to support strategic decision-making QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or similar credentials preferred8–12+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant exposure to real estate or property accountingStrong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and real estate accounting principles (CAM, lease accounting, consolidations, etc.)Experience managing multi-entity structures and complex ownership arrangementsExposure to AppFolio or similar real estate accounting software is important (Yardi, Timberline, Sage, QB, etc.)Proven leadership experience managing and developing accounting teamsExperience working with external auditors, tax advisors, and financial institutionsStrong systems experience (Yardi, MRI, or similar real estate platforms preferred)Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skillsHands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment Why Join UsLong-standing, stable organization with a strong reputation and long-term investment philosophyDirect exposure to ownership and the opportunity to influence strategic decisionsDiverse and growing real estate portfolio across multiple asset classesCollaborative, team-oriented culture with a focus on quality and serviceOpportunity to make a meaningful impact within a family-owned organization
