Job Description
Position Title: Material HandlerDepartment: Machine ShopLocation: Fenton, MOReports To: Machine Shop SupervisorClassification: Hourly – Non-ExemptSchedule: Monday - Thursday, 5am - 3pmPosition Summary:The primary purpose of this position is to assist operations with the proper handling of parts and materials throughout the plant. Responsibilities include unloading, receiving, inspecting, classifying, washing, chip spinning, labeling, and packing materials in addition to ensuring leftovers (chips) are handled properly for recycling and resale. Because responsibilities involve cross functional areas within operations, one must be versatile and take on various duties as assigned by the supervisor.Essential Job Duties:Unload and receive material as needed and provide materials to the machines.Check the schedules and move material to the appropriate machines.Ensure the stock holding racks are organized.Monitor material quantities to ensure proper stock.Remove full scrap barrels, weigh, log and tag the barrels.Inspect and wash parts in appropriate solution.Accurately complete necessary paperwork and appropriate labeling.Ensure all chip containers are emptied in a timely manner to avoid machine shutdowns by transferring chips into proper receptacles.Run and maintain chip spinning equipment and overhead crane to clean the chips and separate oils properly for recycling and resale.Hand mop floors to maintain a safe and clean work area.Monitor the bulk oil and solvent quantities.Prepare the brass trailer for pick up.Clean out the mop stations.Empty trash cans and replace with liners.Scrub the main aisle ways.Other duties as assigned.Required Experience/Skills:Prior experience as a laborer required; Construction or contract labor strongly preferredAbility to work in an oily and noisy environmentAbility to sit, stand, reach, pull, bend, and lift throughout the entire shiftAbility to perform intense physical laborAbility to lift up to 35 poundsAbility to work individually and as part of a teamAbility to be certified on forklifts, overhead cranes, pallet jacks, powered industrial vehicles and Lock Out Tag Out proceduresDesired Experience:Prior experience operating a forklift strongly preferredPrior experience operating an overhead crane strongly preferredWorking Conditions:Work is performed in a plant environment with a significant amount of walking on oily concrete surfaces. Work conditions during the summer months can be very hot, and during the winter months very cold. Workspaces can be very dusty, oily, and noisy due to operating machines and traffic of motorized vehicles in the facility. Employees are required to wear the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (earplugs, safety glasses, latex gloves, and steel-toed shoes) at all times. Employees may be exposed to sharp objects due to moving the chips and working with damaged product.
