This class differs from a Web site Developer 1 in that an incumbent of the latter performs\nat\nthe working level creating web pages for an agency.\n\nExamples of duties and responsibilities:\n1. Programs DHTML or other dynamic markup languages for Web sites; selects colors, formats, file\ntypes,\nand other properties for the Web site; sequences content such as drop-down menus, interactive web\napplications, and multimedia in a logical format; writes DHTML code using State-approved scripting\nlanguages and other web page development tools; views web pages for errors, screen size and\nresolution, fonts, and browser compatibility; verifies links work properly by navigating the web page in a\ntest environment; tests Web sites that use dynamic scripting languages to verify they interact properly\nwith pages that use State-approved server-side programming languages; corrects DHTML code based on\nobservations during testing.\n2. Develops graphics and multimedia content such as icons, logos, and streaming video and audio using\nmultimedia editing software; selects the types of multimedia to be utilized in the web page based on the\ngoals for overall site design; obtains pictures, video, audio, or logos from clients, Internet, or graphics\ndesigners in accordance with federal copyright laws and State guidelines; edits video, audio, and other\nimages based on frame rates, bandwidth, codec's, file compression, streaming/non-streaming formats,\nimage quality, and other related factors; formats multimedia and file sizes based on user connection\nspeed and bandwidth limitations.\n3. Plans options for the proposed Web sites which will meet client specifications; identifies the end user,\ngoals, purpose, and site requirements; searches comparable and existing Web sites for alternate ways of\npresenting information; proposes the best methods for web page layout and design to the client;\neducates\nthe customer about Internet operations, State web page guidelines, and costs of proposal\nimplementation; reads trade publications and attends web development software and hardware demos\nto\nkeep abreast of emerging Web site technologies.\n4. Edits Web sites; adds and deletes content; checks for broken links and proper Web site operation;\nrequests information regarding content changes from client; changes DHTML code based on\nobservations during maintenance check and security updates; corrects errors in script execution that\nmay\nhave developed since release; provides Web site support to users by responding to public, client, and\nuser inquiries regarding problems.\n5. May install Web sites to Web servers utilizing State and industry standard security measures; obtains\nappropriate authorization for implementation of State Internet Web sites; transfers the files using data\ntransfer methods; verifies installation is successful by accessing and navigating the site on the server;\nverifies there are no security breaches; informs management when site is fully operational.\n6.
