Plumbing Technician – Job Description
Position Summary:
The Plumbing Technician is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining plumbing systems in residential, commercial, or industrial settings. This role requires strong technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to safety and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
Install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems including pipes, fixtures, water heaters, drainage systems, and gas lines.
Diagnose plumbing issues, perform troubleshooting, and recommend effective solutions.
Conduct routine inspections and preventive maintenance to ensure system functionality and code compliance.
Interpret blueprints, building codes, and technical diagrams to perform accurate installations and repairs.
Respond to service calls in a timely and professional manner.
Test plumbing systems for leaks, proper flow, and regulatory compliance.
Prepare cost estimates and document completed work accurately.
Maintain tools, equipment, and service vehicles in safe working condition.
Follow all safety protocols, company policies, and local/state plumbing codes.
Communicate clearly with customers, contractors, and team members about work performed and system conditions.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED required; technical training or apprenticeship preferred.
Valid plumbing license (Journeyman, Apprentice, or Master, depending on requirements).
1–5+ years of experience in plumbing installation and repair (varies by level).
Strong knowledge of plumbing systems, building codes, and best practices.
Ability to use power tools, hand tools, and diagnostic equipment.
Good communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Physical ability to lift, climb, crawl, and work in confined spaces.
Preferred Skills
Experience with water treatment systems, backflow prevention, or gas piping.
Certification in backflow testing or cross-connection control.
Knowledge of HVAC or mechanical systems.
Basic computer or mobile app skills for work order systems.
Work Environment
Work performed in residential, commercial, or industrial environments.
May involve exposure to heights, confined spaces, extreme temperatures, or hazardous materials.
Requires travel between job sites and occasional on-call or weekend work.
Typical Tools & Equipment Used
Pipe cutters, wrenches, soldering equipment, augers, cameras, leak-detection devices, and power tools.

Pay: $26.00 - $29.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
