Substation Engineer
At Insight Global we are looking for substation engineers in different locations based in Kentucky and Tennessee. As a substation engineer will support the design and delivery of high‑voltage utility and data center substation projects, including greenfield utility substations depending on location. Responsibilities include preparing project scopes, schedules, and budgets; developing detailed physical substation and protection & control designs; performing engineering calculations and technical studies; and preparing equipment specifications for procurement and testing. The role requires close collaboration with civil, structural, transmission line, and other engineering teams, as well as strong communication skills for effective coordination with clients and internal stakeholders. Higher‑level candidates will be expected to work independently, contribute across disciplines, and provide mentorship or guidance to junior engineers and designers.Top Requirements:Experience in substation design for electric utility projectsKnowledge of physical substation design and protection & control systemsExperience supporting projects across multiple voltage levels (12kV–500kV) Plusses:3+ years of substation or power delivery project experienceData center power infrastructure experiencePrior experience with an engineering consulting firmExperience mentoring junior engineers or EITsProfessional engineering license recognized by the licensing boardBachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical preferred)
