The EIC will be a discovery machine for unlocking the secrets of the \"glue\" that binds the building blocks of visible matter in the universe. The machine design is based on the existing and highly optimized RHIC Ion-Ion collider. It will consist of two intersecting accelerators, one producing an intense beam of electrons, the other a beam of protons or heavier atomic nuclei which are steered into collisions. Beyond sparking scientific discoveries in a new frontier of fundamental physics, the Electron-Ion Collider will trigger technological breakthroughs that have broad-ranging impact on human health and national challenges.\r\nThe Accelerator Systems Integration Engineer in the EIC will provide oversight and coordination of various critical activities, including defining performance requirements, managing cross-system interfaces, and supporting design reviews. Additionally, the role will support installation and removal activities as the EIC project advances into installation phases. The Systems Engineer will help to collaborate and coordinate EIC Systems Engineering responsibilities across all technical teams, ensuring effective and timely communication and continuity in systems integration and verification processes.\r\nEssential Duties and Responsibilities\r\nLead and support requirements development by coordinating with physicists, engineers, and subsystem leads to gather, validate, and document performance requirements, ensuring completeness and technical accuracy.\r\nFacilitate integration across technical groups, developing comprehensive interface documentation, managing sign-off processes, and maintaining alignment between interdependent systems.\r\nOrganize and conduct technical coordination meetings, track actions, and ensure follow-through on decisions affecting cross-cutting systems.\r\nAssist in design review preparation and execution, ensuring that design packages meet system-level criteria and requirements traceability.\r\nSupport installation and removal planning, collaborating with system owners and integration leads to ensure safe and efficient implementation.\r\nRequired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities\r\nBachelor's degree in engineering\r\nAt least seven years' relevant experience\r\nMicrosoft computer skills including Excel and Word\r\nKnowledge of the location, functions, and integration of operating accelerator systems such as: power supplies, instrumentation, vacuum, control systems, machine protection.\r\nExperience with accelerator construction projects: rack installation, cable selection and routing, component integration.\r\nExpertise in communication within a technical team and across multiple teams to identify and solve accelerator technical issues\r\nExperience with the generation of utility requirements and the transmission to the infrastructure team\r\nPreferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities\r\nFamiliarity with database structures and software tools\r\nProficiency in programming tools such as Visual Basic and/or Power BI\r\nEnvironmental, Health & Safety Requirements\r\nAbility to climb ladders of low to moderate heights\r\nOther Information\r\nHybrid work eligible for one day each week\r\nSome travel may be required\r\nSalary and Benefits\r\nBrookhaven National Laboratory is committed to providing fair, equitable and competitive compensation. The full salary range for this position is $106,650 - $170,650 per year.
