Principal, or Pay Grade: IS 1his/her designee and teacher assigned.Dept./School: Elementary/Secondary Education Length of Contract: 10 mos.Date: 2/12/19QualificationsEducation/Certification:High School Diploma or GEDTexas Education Agency paraprofessional educational aide certificateExperience working with childrenAbility to get along with others and follow directions while working independentlyComputer/typing skills and/or willingness to learnJob GoalThe role of the educational aide is to assist classroom teacher(s) in facilitating student achievement; assist the teacher(s) in contributing to the educational system as a whole and to the growth of each student; assist the teacher(s) in aiding each student in developing skills, acquiring knowledge and achieving maximum potential.Major DutiesSupervises small group student activitiesConducts one-on-one instructional activitiesPerforms clerical (instructional) activities for the classroom teacherDistributes and collects instructional materialAssists in classroom management and supervisionSet up and assist with supervision of listening stations and/or centersPerforms other duties as assignedAdditional RequirementsAbility to work in variable environmental conditions related to temperature, humidity and other atmosphere conditions.Possible travel by car, van or bus, and working alone or with othersPhysical ability to do lifting of 10 lbs. or more, talking, bending, kneeling, pulling, reaching, grasping, pushing, stooping, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, occasional running and the ability to move with agility.The ability to assist students with toileting and personal hygiene, feeding, mobility, positioning and seizure activity.Knowledge of or ability to learn behavior management intervention techniques.The ability to maintain emotional control under stress.The ability to understand and maintain confidentiality.Ability to cope with biological exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases.Knowledge, Skills And AbilitiesAbility to communicate in oral and written form in English.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to work in a cooperative manner with co-workers and supervisorsAbility to follow directives from the principal, associate and assistant principalGeneral Employee RequirementsSupport and align work with the mission, vision, and beliefs of the district.Follow and support board policies in areas of related responsibility.Ensure district resources are managed effectively to maximize resources for student learning.Share in the development and implementation of district success plans.Actively participate in ongoing development to improve work quality and district contribution.Model integrity, work ethic, and professionalism as a suitable example for LISD students.AppraisalPerformance of this job will be appraised in accordance with Board Policy DNA.
