Principal Scientist

Position SummaryThe Principal Scientist will report directly to the Sr. Director, R&D and Innovation. This position will be responsible for developing new formulas for color cosmetics. The Principal Scientist will also work with Manufacturing to transfer new or modified formulas from the laboratory to production, including writing manufacturing procedures and setting specifications.Essential Tasks, Duties, & ResponsibilitiesDesign and formulate complex formulations to push the innovation sphere in cosmeticsExecute innovative problem solving through deep knowledge of raw materials, pigments, and formulation technology Act as a technical coach to Junior and Senior Chemists, fostering a culture of scientific rigorOversee multiple high-priority projects, ensuring milestones are met on time and within budgetDevelop new formulas for color cosmetics such as lip gloss, makeup, and mascarasIdeate and refine manufacturing processes to enable smooth transfer of new or modified formulas from laboratory to productionPerform all necessary stability and compatibility tests on all new formulasWork with the Quality group to maintain and improve overall product qualityReview formulas and raw materials for compliance with International GuidelinesKeep current with new ingredients and technologies and recommend new materials and techniques to management as appropriateAvailable to work an evening shift when neededTravel to Mexico approximately every other week to support on-site manufacturing, scale-up, and production activitiesPerform other duties as needed and directed by management
