Manage internal and external electrical engineers in the planning and design of electrical and automation systems including establishing equipment selection criteria.\n\nManage the coordination of projects with regional electrical and operational staff and vendors to ensure engineering projects are appropriately staffed and milestones are achieved. Manage junior EE's as they work with regional electrical managers in prioritizing work during equipment outages such as capital projects, expense projects, and preventative maintenance. Assess needs and internal resources available to perform the required tasks and coordinate the use of outside contractors as necessary. Evaluate project deliverables, timelines, and closeout to increase efficiency, quality, and volume.\n\nMentor/instruct the regional electrical staff and junior EE's to ensure conformance to safe and best practices in all aspects of electrical systems, including design, construction, and testing. Create and provide training for Regional Electrical Staff and EE's to improve troubleshooting skills and construction methods.\n\nReview and develop reports, as necessary, to show the effectiveness of electrical engineering, power savings, or other such metrics. Must maintain knowledge of current methods, best practices, and code standards including NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and NEMA relating to assigned work. Develop technical specifications and purchase requisitions for process control equipment. Provide input to the creation and modification of Corporate Standards, Specifications, and Policies.\n\nWhat You'll Do\n\nEnforce safe operating standards, continually improving practices.\n\nManage and improve current methods for tracking documentation, project work, and other similar topics.\n\nCost Estimating – Provide electrical cost estimates for proposed new facilities and plant modifications, including costs for electrical equipment and installation.\n\nEngineering Design Services – Provide complete distribution/control design for aggregate, asphalt, and ready-mix facilities. Design shall include PLC/HMI programming, plant networks, and control schematics. Provide technical supervision in formulating calculations, evaluations, feasibility studies, and optimum design criteria for plant electrical integrity, reliability, and endurance. Services provided are conceptual operating plans, detailed layouts, and equipment selections.\n\nProject Management – Provide project management activities on projects working with internal personnel as well as outside contractors, developing schedules and goals to meet milestone requirements.\n\nProject Review – Participate in the review of capital and expense projects pertaining to design correctness, feasibility, and cost for the sections of the project related to process control.\n\nStandardization and Innovation – Participate in the standardization of projects and databases for both engineering and estimating information. Maintain an awareness of technology trends in the electrical and instrumentation industry and the application thereof by competition and others. Analyze future plant control systems and apply new technology and original innovation to attain competitive superiority where possible.\n\nOther Requirements\n\nMotorized vehicles, computers, telephones, fax machines, cell phones, and electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and clamp‑on ammeters.\n\nUse of telephone, computers, cell phones and other electronic devices is essential.\n\nMust have the ability to lift 30 pounds and to stand and walk for long periods of time.\n\nMust have the ability to drive a pick‑up truck/car on a daily basis; there may be a periodic need to travel by airline.\n\nBehavioral Expectations\n\nAbility to work in a stressful, deadline‑oriented environment that requires complex, technical information and decision‑making.\n\nAble to present complex information in a clear, concise, and positive manner.\n\nCritical Competencies\n\nRelationship Management – Promotes positive working relationships and cooperates with peers, builds bridges between people in different parts of the organization, and displays a willingness to compromise and negotiate.\n\nCommunication – Uses effective verbal and non‑verbal communication to be persuasive and sell ideas, uses good judgment in determining what gets communicated and the medium used.\n\nPlanning, Prioritizing, and Coordinating – Effectively organizes and prioritizes work while maintaining flexibility to accommodate unplanned high‑priority items.\n\nOptimization Techniques – Able to evaluate current and future plant designs to utilize automation to optimize production, above and beyond normal systems.\n\nSkills You’ll Need\n\nB.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering desired, but not required.\n\nProfessional engineering license desired, but not required.\n\nPrevious management of direct reports desired.\n\nMinimum 10-15 years of electrical experience in the aggregate or related industry.\n\nExperience in the management of Safety, Health, and Environment.\n\nOther skills include identifying electrical problems, troubleshooting, and field installation experience.\n\nStrong skills using Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. is required.\n\nExperience with using AutoCAD is desired, but not required.\n\nKnowledge of mine production techniques and equipment, safety and environmental regulations (NEC, MSHA and OSHA).\n\nStrong communication and interpersonal skills.\n\nAbility to plan and manage effectively.\n\nMust represent VMC in a professional manner to all customers, vendors, and internal personnel.\n\nWhat You’ll Like About Us\nGreat Company Culture.
