Employees contribute directly to the effective functioning of the justice system at the local level.Role Description The Legal Assistant is a full-time, on-site role based in Sallisaw, OK, supporting attorneys and legal staff within District 27. Daily responsibilities include preparing, formatting, and organizing legal documents, case files, and correspondence, as well as maintaining accurate records and calendars for hearings, deadlines, and meetings. The role involves communicating with attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement, witnesses, and members of the public in a professional and timely manner. The Legal Assistant will perform general administrative tasks such as data entry, filing, copying, and managing incoming and outgoing mail. This position also assists with case preparation by gathering information, organizing evidence, and ensuring documents are complete and ready for court proceedings.Qualifications Foundational knowledge of law and legal procedures, with an understanding of the role of legal assistants in a public sector or court-related environment.Proficiency in legal document preparation, including drafting, formatting, proofreading, and managing case files and court forms.Strong communication skills, including clear written correspondence and professional verbal interaction with attorneys, court staff, law enforcement, and the public.Administrative assistance capabilities, such as scheduling, records management, data entry, and efficient use of office software (e.g., word processing, spreadsheets, case management systems).Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate strong attention to detail, and manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced legal setting.High school diploma or equivalent required; additional coursework or certification in paralegal studies, legal assisting, or criminal justice is preferred.Prior experience in a legal office, court, or government setting is beneficial but not mandatory; willingness to learn and adapt to District 27 procedures is essential.
