Research and Development Chemist

Overview The Research and Development Chemist is responsible for developing and improving formulas and products, setting up test methods and laboratory equipment, and approving chemical offsets. Knowledge of the polymer/rubber/aerospace industry and/or manufacturing environment a plus. This position interacts with various levels of personnel including manufacturing, quality, production, customer service, and procurement departments. Duties and Responsibilities include the following: Work with various levels of manufacturing personnel and conduct research and development of new products Improve existing products to reduce cost, improve performance, or simplify manufacturing process Test competitor/various products and record results Analyze and approve chemical offsets Research and development of alternative products Analyze properties of competitor products Develop and validate test methods Source and qualify laboratory equipment Prepare samples for customers Maintain formulations and specifications for current products Validate batching of new or reformulated products Plans for the most cost-effective utilization of materials Applies knowledge of material science to recommend engineering and manufacturing changes Reviews blueprints and specifications to determine the appropriate materials needed Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the chemistry and manufacturing Maintain accurate records of experiments, results, and conclusions All other duties as assigned by management Requirements - Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field; Master's or Ph.D. preferred - Proven experience in scientific research and product development - Experience with aerospace, manufacturing and/or industrial environment - Strong analytical skills and attention to detail - 2+ Years of experience in the Research and Development Chemistry field or related industry Job Type: Full-time Pay: $96,109.00 - $115,000.00 per year Experience: Research and Development: 2 years (Required) Ability to Commute: Meriden, CT (Required) Ability to Relocate: Meriden, CT: Relocate before starting work (Required) Work Location: In person
