Credit/Collections Specialist

SummaryThe Credit/Collections Specialist will provide direct support to the Controller under his supervision and guidance by applying principles of accounting to compile and analyze financial and credit / collections information and prepare accurate financial reports to meet financial timetables and deadlines while maintaining a wide variety of accounting, analytical and administrative duties and functions within the department.Essential Duties And Responsibilities Provide all levels of management with useful and accurate financial information as requested on a timely basis. Assist month end procedures by assembling financial documents and inputting data necessary to close related accounting period and prepare various monthly corporate reports. Manage the accounts receivable accounts and customers to maintain the integrity of the accounts receivable assets. Process customer Credit Memos. Update and maintain weekly & monthly cash activity including recording corporate cash transfer activity and preparing weekly list of outstanding checks. Process hourly/salary payroll journal entries and maintain labor related spreadsheets. Analyze and reconcile assigned general ledger accounts, resolve any discrepancies to determine adjustments required and prepare journal entries for approval of related account activity. Record approved journal entries and process monthly standard journal entries established by management on a timely basis. Reconciliation and payment of company credit card charges. Perform credit checks and analyze information to determine, with supervision, credit worthiness and credit limits of potential new customers; input and update customer database when necessary. Prepare weekly, quarterly, and annual sales tax returns for multiple states; monitor and review changes and updates to tax laws and regulations to ensure our compliancy and communicate information with sales; maintain tax tables and codes in CSI; furnish and maintain tax exempt certificates. Generate monthly sales commission reports for contracted representatives to review and prepare commission payments; answer follow-up questions regarding payments and resolve discrepancies with assistance from sales and quotations. Compile and maintain records for company assets. Participate in financial analyses as needed. Maintain and reconcile petty cash transactions and prepare deposits for cash customer payments. Work effectively with others in a team-based environment to accomplish company goals and to identify and resolve problems. Ensure the confidentiality and security of all financial and employee files. Ability to work with and navigate ERP. Ability to follow verbal and written instructions with minimal supervision. Comply with all company rules, safety policies and procedures. Ability to continually prioritize tasks to be completed as required. Self-starter and multi-task oriented. Able to work independently, as-well-as with others, as needed. Work effectively to identify and resolve problems or issues. Other duties as assigned.QualificationsPosition requires knowledge of finance, accounting, internal controls, budgeting and costing principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. Ability to accurately analyze financial data and prepare financial reports and information is required. Strong math and computer skills with experience using Microsoft Office programs (particularly Excel) is essential. Must possess strong communication skills including written, oral and interpersonal in dealing with internal and external contacts. Ability to work independently and take initiative, set priorities, and see projects through to completion.Education And/Or ExperienceFour-year degree in accounting or related field from an accredited college or university is required.A minimum of two years of experience in accounting field or a related area is required. This person must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within accounting field. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and should have the ability to perform a variety of tasks. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required.
