In this role, the Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring precision‑machined aerospace materials, components and assemblies meet all customer and internal quality requirements. This role supports both new product development (NPD) and production environments, focusing on complex, tight‑tolerance machined parts used in critical aerospace applications such as flight controls, engine systems, and structural assemblies. This position will support the Quality department through development, planning and monitoring of quality systems and quality activities to achieve safety, quality, delivery and cost (SQDC) goals. The Quality Engineer reports to the Quality Manager and will directly support the Quality Management System, and the company’s mission, vision, and values.\nKey Responsibilities\nEnsure compliance with safety, 6S, AS9100, and customer quality requirements.\nSupport production and NPD through quality planning, risk mitigation, and problem resolution.\nLead nonconformance management, MRB activities, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive actions using structured methodologies (8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone).\nSupport and approve First Article Inspections (AS9102), PPAPs, PFMEAs, APQP activities, and process validations (IQ/OQ/PQ).\nReview engineering drawings, GD&T, manufacturing plans, and specifications for feasibility and compliance.\nMaintain and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS).\nConduct internal audits and support customer, regulatory, and third‑party audits.\nPartner with suppliers to ensure material, certification, and documentation compliance.\nAnalyze quality data, monitor performance metrics, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.\nServe as the quality interface for internal teams, customers, and suppliers.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).\n3+ years in a manufacturing quality role.\nExperience with tight‑tolerance, complex CNC‑machined aerospace components.\nWorking knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, QAD, D365, Epicor).\nStrong understanding of aerospace quality standards and documentation (AS9100, AS9102, PFMEA, PPAP).\nProficiency in blueprint reading, GD&T, SPC, and precision inspection tools.\nPreferred Qualifications\nASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or similar certification.\nAS9100, ISO, or NADCAP audit experience.\nExperience supporting aerospace programs (commercial, defense, or space).\nBackground in a high‑mix, low‑volume machining environment.\nWork Environment & Physical Requirements\nSplit time between office and manufacturing floor.\nHands‑on interaction with CNC machining and inspection areas.\nAbility to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs.\nOccasional extended or flexible hours as required.\nSponsorship and Remote work are not available for this position.\nHBD Industries is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.
