We are looking for a skilled and dedicated Electrical Engineer to join our team and help us continue to provide thoughtful and efficient designs for our clients.\n\nRequirements\n\nRegistration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina\n\nBachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.\n\nMinimum of 5 years of experience in MEP building systems design for higher education, municipal, K‑12, and/or commercial facilities.\n\nProficiency in Revit and/or AutoCAD required.\n\nStrong communication, coordination, and analytical skills.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nCollaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams to develop electrical system designs from concept through construction.\n\nDesign lighting, power distribution, fire alarm, and low‑voltage systems that meet project requirements and codes.\n\nPrepare drawings, specifications, and calculations in Revit or AutoCAD.\n\nPerform load calculations, circuiting, panel schedules, and equipment sizing.\n\nConduct field investigations, site observations, and existing system assessments.\n\nReview submittals, respond to RFIs, and provide construction administration support.\n\nParticipate in interdisciplinary coordination and quality control reviews to ensure accurate, high‑quality deliverables.\n\nAssist in mentoring junior staff and sharing technical expertise across the team.\n\nSkills\n\nStrong understanding of electrical power distribution, lighting design, and fire alarm systems.\n\nFamiliarity with applicable codes and standards (NEC, IES, NFPA, ASHRAE, etc.).\n\nAbility to produce complete electrical design packages including plans, one‑lines, panel schedules, and details.\n\nExperience with short‑circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies preferred.\n\nKnowledge of renewable energy and sustainable design principles a plus.\n\nWhy Work at Optima Engineering\nOptima Engineering is a 30‑year‑old, employee‑owned, multi‑discipline engineering firm with offices in Charlotte, Raleigh, Asheville, and Greenville, South Carolina.
