Build your future with us Our Commercial Lines department is seeking candidates for a middle markets underwriter trainee class beginning in August 2026. This position is based at our Headquarters in Fairfield, Ohio. The pay rate for this position is $31.25 hourly. The hourly pay rate will convert to $65,000 annually upon successful completion of training. Eligible associates may also receive an annual cash bonus and stock incentives based on company and individual performance. Be ready to:actively participate, learn additional skills, and manage a book of business in partnership with independent insurance agents in a defined geography Underwriters:manage a defined book of business, serving multiple agencies in a specific geographic areademonstrate a basic understanding of underwriting concepts, lines of coverage and the Cincinnati appetite for riskproperly use company and industry resources to underwrite risks on an account levelappropriately price renewal accounts and anniversary reviews with consideration given to segmentation, net rate and exposure increase targets;additionally, regarding risk characteristics, agency performance, market conditions and department initiatives; seeking guidance from others to support decisionsfollow appropriate line of authority with portfolio underwriter or management involvement and adequately prepare for account summary discussionsmeets department service standards for new business and renewal issuance, respond to inquiries in a timely manner, effectively research and work to solve problems for internal and external customersbalance performance goals with profit and growth objectives; begin to learn how to review and analyze data to drive value added decisions regarding price, terms, and conditionsbuild and maintain agency relationships, choosing the appropriate method of communication and negotiating with a win-win strategytravel to visit agencies to further strengthen relationships and communicate company visionbuild and leverage relationships with Headquarters and field associates to add value to the agency experience and to support company goalsseek opportunities to add to your underwriting knowledge by attending all department training classes and reading all written communication Be equipped with:excellent communication skills and ability to build strong relationshipsstrong time management and decision-making skillsability to learn and understand new technologyability to analyze risks at individual strategic levelwork efficiently while following limits of authority and complying with audit criteriaability to seek out creative solutionscollaborate with team members and management to identify and solve issuesbeing adaptable to new ideas and processesactively pursues continuing education Bring education and experience from:bachelor's degree ORhave four or more years of insurance-related work experience and have earned an associate in insurance (AINS) designation Enhance your talents Providing outstanding service and developing strong relationships with our independent agents are hallmarks of our company.
