Work is performed in a centralized manufacturing engineering activity or assembly/plant activity where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised as well as a high level of independent judgment.\nResponsibilities include but not limited to:\nNew program implementation/execution (SOR prep, forecasting, controls/robotics design, equipment build/run-off and buyoff)\nDesign, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch and continuous improvement of equipment and tools required in plants for the production of high-quality parts.\nManage deliveries to program timing milestones.\nProvide project report outs to senior management.\nExisting program/site support (troubleshooting, etc.)\nCommunicate effectively and work collaboratively with all customers/plants.\nProvide technical direction to less experienced controls engineers.\nDesign and troubleshooting of electrical controls systems.\nWork may involve development and testing of advanced process technology.\nJob Responsibilities:\nEngineer and design pneumatic piping diagrams.\nEngineer and design electrical wiring diagrams.\nEngineer and design hydraulic piping diagrams.\nDesign electrical control panels.\nDesign programmable logic controller software.\nDesign programmable human machine interface (HMI) software.\nTryout, debug and provide start-up support for control systems.\nProvide technical support for installation of tools and equipment.\nProvide technical support for training of plant personnel.\nTravel to plant sites as required.\nTravel as required.\nBasic Skills – Required (5-7 years of experience as a controls/robotics engineer)\nStrong technical knowledge of electrical/control systems and the ability to apply these concepts within a manufacturing environment.\nDemonstrated basic understanding of mechanical concepts involving machine designs, process requirements involved in the manufacturing process.\nExperience in PLC and HMI programming, Ethernet and/or Devicenet networks\nKnowledge of servo motors, motion control and drives\nProvide technical expertise on the design, construction, integration, plant installation, successful launch, and continuous improvement of the Plant Floor systems (PFS)\nExperience in Fanuc robot’s setup and programming\nProblem solving, analytical, interpersonal and communications skills required.\nAbility to design and trouble shoot electrical controls systems.\nDemonstrated Excellent level of analytical ability, communication and interpersonal skills required to build relationships with team members and customers to solve problems and resolve issues.\nDemonstrated ability to manage multiple challenging projects and assignments with high level of autonomy and accountability for results.\nDemonstrates initiative by reaching beyond work assigned to improve output and/or help others.\nProven ability in project management skills\nMultiple different manufacturing controls and/or robotics assignments with successful individual achievements\nAbility to use computer, interpret blueprints, engineering drawings and learn new systems.\nSelf –motivated and ability to multitask.\nPreferred Skills\nDemonstrated understanding of plant floor work\nGeneral knowledge of hydraulics and pneumatics is a plus.\nUnderstanding of GMS and 4 walls within the site or program\nPrior work experience as controls engineers in the automotive field\nKnowledge of GM’s global controls architecture\nEducation\nBachelor’s degree with major in engineering or equivalent
