This role combines deep technical expertise in machine learning with strong leadership skills to ensure the team is focused, effective, and aligned with business priorities. You will work closely with executive stakeholders while supporting a high-performing, collaborative research team.\nYour Impact\nLead and support Modulate’s machine learning research and engineering team\nEnsure the team is aligned with business priorities and product needs\nHelp grow team capability through hiring, mentoring, and skill development\nMaintain high team morale and an effective, collaborative culture\nDrive clarity on feasibility, prioritization, and estimation of ML work\nEnsure Modulate continues to ship high-quality, impactful ML models\nWhat You Will Do\nCollaborate with engineers, researchers, and executives (CTO, CEO, VP Product/Design) on ML strategy and priorities\nDeeply understand the team’s models and research to guide technical direction\nHelp prioritize research and engineering efforts based on impact and feasibility\nSupport the team in designing, training, and shipping machine learning models\nMentor researchers and engineers and support their technical growth\nParticipate in hiring and team expansion efforts\nCommunicate model performance and tradeoffs to technical and non-technical stakeholders\nOptionally contribute directly to ML research and engineering work as an IC when needed\nEnsure strong collaboration across research, engineering, and product teams\nWhat We Are Looking For\nExperience conducting machine learning research and shipping models\nExperience collaborating closely with other researchers (peer, lead, or mentor level)\nExperience communicating research externally (papers, conferences, etc.)\nStrong experience with Python and PyTorch\nAbility to understand and guide complex ML systems and tradeoffs\nStrong leadership, communication, and organizational skills\nAbility to align technical work with business priorities\nNice to Have\nPrior experience managing ML researchers or ML engineering teams\nExperience working with audio models or speech systems (ASR, TTS, etc.)\nExperience with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS\nExperience in fast-paced startup environments\nBenefits\nCompetitive salary + equity\nFull health, dental, and vision coverage\nFlexible PTO with strong culture of taking it\nWeekly team lunches with dietary accommodations\nHybrid work with core in-office days and flexible remote options\nLeadership and technical learning sessions\nCareer development and continued growth support\nUp to 8 weeks work-from-anywhere policy\nA deeply inclusive, human-centered culture\nPay Transparency\nModulate believes in transparency as a cornerstone of equity and trust.
