Software Engineer, Level 1 with Security Clearance

What You Will Do: At Independent Software, as a Software Engineer Level 1, you will support the development, deployment, and enhancement of mission-critical software systems supporting satellite communications and RF signal processing environments. This is a highly collaborative and customer-facing role where you will work alongside experienced engineers to develop and maintain high-performance software solutions in secure operational environments. In this role, you will analyze user requirements, develop software enhancements, troubleshoot existing applications, and contribute to the design and implementation of reliable software systems supporting advanced communications technologies. You will gain hands-on experience working with real-time systems, automated testing, complex algorithms, and modern DevOps environments. Key Responsibilities:Analyze user requirements to support software design and development effortsDevelop, maintain, and enhance C++ software applications and system componentsTroubleshoot, debug, and resolve software defects and performance issuesSupport implementation of new features and capabilities aligned with mission objectivesAssist with database and data repository interface development and maintenanceSupport development and optimization of algorithms within timing and resource constraintsParticipate in automated testing, unit testing, and software quality assurance activitiesCollaborate with software engineers, system architects, QA engineers, and project managers to support successful software deliverySupport software deployment, integration, and sustainment activitiesMaintain technical documentation for software designs, interfaces, and development processesParticipate in code reviews and follow established software development best practices Required Skills and Qualifications:Experience with C++ software developmentUnderstanding of software development methodologies and software design principlesFamiliarity with real-time systems, performance optimization, or high-performance applicationsExposure to RF signal analysis, satellite communications systems, or related technical environments is a plusExperience with debugging and troubleshooting software applicationsFamiliarity with automated testing and unit testing conceptsBasic understanding of database or data repository interfacesFamiliarity with DevOps concepts and toolsExposure to VMware, Docker, Kubernetes, or containerized environments is a plusFamiliarity with message queue technologies and communication protocols is a plusStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong written and verbal communication skillsAbility to work independently and collaboratively within a team environmentWillingness to learn and adapt in fast-paced technical environments Education and Experience:Seven (7) years of experience as a Software Engineer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is requiredBachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is requiredFour (4) additional years of Software Engineering experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted in place of a bachelor's degree Preferred Qualifications:Experience supporting Linux-based development environmentsExperience supporting mission-critical or real-time systemsFamiliarity with Agile software development methodologiesExperience supporting secure DoD or Intelligence Community environments Clearance Requirement:Must possess an active TS SCI with appropriate Polygraph to be considered for this role Why Choose Independent Software: At Independent Software, our people are the mission.
