This position will help design, deploy, and manage storage solutions supporting modeling and simulation applications, digital engineering environments, warfighter AI/ML workloads, user data, and platform services across both cloud and on-premises deployments.\nThe successful candidate will work closely with platform engineers and DevSecOps teams to implement scalable, secure, and resilient storage services within (or alongside) Kubernetes-based environments and help shape GEMSTONE's long-term storage architecture for classified and unclassified deployments.\nKey Responsibilities:\nDesign and implement software solutions supporting platform storage and data persistence services.\nDevelop backend services that manage datasets, digital artifacts, metadata, user content, and workflow outputs.\nSupport design and operation of distributed storage solutions for Kubernetes-based environments and on-premises environments\nAssist with design and implementation of hybrid (cloud-native and on-premises) storage architectures within Kubernetes environments.\nBuild and maintain web applications that allow users to discover, manage, publish, and access data assets.\nSupport development of APIs for data access, artifact publication, metadata management, and storage lifecycle operations.\nSupport persistent storage capabilities for interactive developer and engineering environments.\nDevelop automation supporting backup, replication, migration, archiving, and recovery workflows.\nCollaborate with platform engineers to integrate storage services with identity, authorization, auditing, and monitoring solutions.\nParticipate in architecture reviews, Agile development activities, code reviews, and testing efforts.\nSupport deployment and validation through CI/CD pipelines.\nContribute to technical documentation and operational procedures.\nWork Environment:\nLocation: Onsite or Hybrid-Dayton, OH\nTravel Requirements: None\nWorking Hours: Standard\nQualifications:\nRequired:\nBachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related discipline.\nAbility to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance\nAbility to learn complex software ecosystems and rapidly become proficient in new platforms and technologies.\nExperience with distributed storage platforms such as Ceph, Longhorn, OpenEBS, Portworx, GlusterFS, or equivalent solutions.\nExperience deploying or supporting applications within Kubernetes environments.\nExperience with on-premises storage infrastructure and storage management.\nStrong understanding of Linux file systems (ext4, XFS, Btrfs, ZFS), POSIX, VFS\nFamiliarity with cloud-native storage technologies including Persistent Volumes (PV), Persistent Volume Claims (PVC), Storage Classes, and CSI drivers.\n1–5 years of professional software development experience.\nExperience developing backend services using one or more modern programming languages:\nGoLang\nPython\nJava\nC#\nExperience developing web applications using:\nReact\nTypeScript\nJavaScript\nExperience working with relational or non-relational databases.\nUnderstanding of software engineering principles and data management concepts.\nFamiliarity with Linux development environments.\nDesired:\nExperience with RDBMS such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MSSQL\nExperience with non-RDBMS such as MongoDB, Redis, or Elastic/OpenSearch\nExperience supporting data-intensive workloads, such as distributed AI/ML, digital engineering, or modeling and simulation applications.\nFamiliarity with infrastructure-as-code, GitOps, Helm, ArgoCD, or Kubernetes platform operations.\nExperience supporting classified, air-gapped, or secure computing environments.\nFamiliarity with S3-compatible object storage technologies.\nUnderstanding of metadata management and data cataloging concepts.\nFamiliarity with API-driven data access patterns.\nExposure to infrastructure-as-code and GitOps practices.\nReady to Make a Difference?\nIf you’re excited about making a significant impact in the field of space defense and working on projects that matter, we encourage you to apply and join our team at KBR.
