This role combines hands-on venipuncture with specimen processing tasks to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant laboratory testing. The position is ideal for an experienced phlebotomist seeking a stable, long-term opportunity with the potential to convert to a direct hire.ResponsibilitiesPerform routine and complex blood draws using venipuncture techniques, including straight needles and butterfly needles, for approximately 25–35 patients per day.Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens according to established procedures and test requirements.Clearly and courteously explain the venipuncture and specimen collection process to patients to ensure comfort and understanding.Label all specimen tubes accurately and match them to the appropriate laboratory requisition forms or computer-generated labels.Centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders and protocols.Process specimens by packaging them for transport, storing them at the required temperature, and placing them in appropriate collection containers or tubes.Follow all protocols necessary to maintain specimen integrity during handling, storage, and transport.Record maintenance data, perform decontamination procedures, and maintain a clean and safe work area.Update patient information accurately in the system or on required documentation.Review all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy before processing.Fully understand and interpret physicians’ orders to ensure correct tests and specimen handling.Answer telephone calls, provide laboratory results as appropriate, and respond to inquiries in a professional manner.Understand and comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend required annual departmental trainings.Work independently at the site, managing daily workflow, prioritizing tasks, and ensuring all specimens are processed within required timeframes.Essential SkillsAt least 2 years of phlebotomy experience specifically in drawing blood from patients.Proficiency in venipuncture techniques, including the use of straight needles and butterfly needles.Demonstrated experience with phlebotomy, blood draws, and specimen collection.Ability to collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures and test orders.Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate matching of laboratory requisition forms or computer labels to specimen tubes.Ability to explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.Understanding of and compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations related to laboratory safety and specimen handling.Ability to work independently and manage workflow without direct onsite supervision.Phlebotomy certification (such as CPT) or equivalent credential, if required by local regulations or standards.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience drawing hard-to-stick patients, preferably including geriatric populations.Comfort working in a specialty clinical environment such as endocrinology.Strong communication skills for interacting with patients, clinical staff, and callers requesting laboratory results.Ability to accurately update and maintain patient information and documentation.Commitment to ongoing compliance training, including annual departmental and safety trainings.Interest in a long-term career opportunity with the potential to convert to a direct hire role.Work EnvironmentThis role is based onsite at an endocrinology center and involves working independently as the primary phlebotomist at the location. The position follows a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with hours of 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, and 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The environment is clinical and patient-facing, with regular interaction with individuals requiring blood draws and other specimen collections. Work involves the use of standard phlebotomy and laboratory equipment such as needles, collection tubes, centrifuges, and specimen transport materials, as well as computer systems for labels and patient information.
