The ideal candidate for this position demonstrates a passion for Student U’s mission and core values, high school students, and working collaboratively towards student success. This position reports to the Chief Program Officer.\n\nPosition Overview:\n\nIn partnership with additional Student U staff, the team conducts research for new high school initiatives by analyzing local and national best practices, and develops ambitious goals and innovative ideas to push the high school program forward. One of the goals specific to this position is to grow and develop programming specific to students’ academic readiness for college. As a member of our full-time staff, the High School Program Coordinator participates in all staff meetings, professional development, and special projects across departments.\n\nResponsibilities\n\nProgram Planning & Coordination:\n\nPlan & implement high school-wide events, which currently include by are not limited to U Prep Days and cluster meetings\nOversee the Summer Academy Program including:\nRecruitment, selection and training of part-time staff (Teachers, High School Program Assistant, and Dean of Students)\nSupporting students’ summer academic learning & social-emotional growth\nCo-coordinating program-wide and high school events\nOversee 8th Grade Transition\nLead the development and implementation of existing and new programming to best support 8th grade students’ transition into high school and high school programming, including but not limited to leading transition meetings and planning and implementing 8th Grade Meet and Greet and Transition Dinner.\nCo-Lead High School Year Round Programming\nCo-managing High School Afterschool Programming on Tuesday and Thursday evenings\nCo-Lead Advocate Program\nRecruit & select a of team of 15-20 High School Advocates\nDevelop high quality professional development and utilize management strategies to support advocates in supporting students towards high school graduation & college enrollment\nDevelop the necessary tools and systems for advocates to track student progress\nCo-lead Advocate Staff meetings\nDevelop new programs as necessary.\n\nPart-Time Staff Management:\n\nLead recruitment and selection process of all high school summer academy staff positions and co-lead the recruitment and selection process of all year-round high school program part-time staff.\nIn collaboration with full-time program staff, co-lead the creation of and implementation of all year-round and summer academy part-time staff trainings.\nCo-manage and support high school part-time staff (specifically the team of advocates, Summer High School Program Assistant, and the Dean of Students).\nOversee professional development and evaluation of high school advocates and summer staff.\n\nDirect Reports: High School part-time staff (school year and summer), Summer High School Program Assistant, and Summer Dean of Students\n\nStudent & Family Support:\n\nDevelop and maintain family partnerships to best support students & families and connect families with the necessary staff & resources.\nFoster relationships with Durham Public Schools to best support students’ academic & personal well-being needs.\nAdvocate on behalf of students and families to schools and other stakeholders, when necessary.\nCollaborate with Student U staff and community partners to best support students’ needs.\nMonitor & track student and family engagement with the program and other necessary program data as needed.\nMonitor and create plans to support students with high academic needs and students with high academic achievement.\nUnder the direction of the Student and Family Support Department, support the implementation of specialized programming for students and families to support students’ academic and college readiness goals.\n\nProgram Development & Evaluation:\n\nPartner with the High School Program Coordinator and Chief Program Officer to develop ambitious goals and innovative ideas to push the high school program forward.\nPartnering with the Chief Program Officer, evaluate the performance of all High School program components to ensure quality and engagement.\nDevelop new tools and structures to ensure the program is running smoothly & efficiently.\n\nQualifications\n\nCandidates must believe that all students can succeed and be willing to grow and develop with the organization as Student U strives to realize its ambitious goals.\nBachelor’s degree is required\nAt least three years of experience working with high school students, Student U students, or in Durham Public Schools\nAt least two years of experience in providing academic support to students, including course advising, academic planning, and connecting students with resources\nAt least two years of management experience (type of management experience can vary)\nSpanish proficiency preferred, but not required\nExperience in creating and implementing programs for Black and Latinx first-generation college students and their families\nDetail-oriented and organized with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously;
