Pharmacist 7/7 - Emergency Department
JOB SUMMARY
Coordinate the drug distribution and clinical pharmacy activities for nursing and support departments with the hospital. Is responsible for safe and efficient methods for coordination of established pharmacy policy concerning drug and patient care. Provide clinical drug information to meet the needs of the patient, nurse and physician.
DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Review and interprets physician’s orders for appropriateness relevant to other departments (I.e., drugs for diagnostic procedures, laboratory, etc.) ensure that overdose/under doses have not been prescribed and that interactions, incompatibilities, or toxic compounds will not result from the combination of medications; assure that drugs are appropriately labeled, stored and utilized according to physicians’ instructions.
Overall performance of below indicated essential job duties:
Maintain necessary controls with respect to audited controlled drugs
Supervisor pre-packing of drugs an control procedures
Provide drug information such as dosing, compatibilities, formulary substitutes, etc., to nursing, route such as chemotherapy, hyper alimentation, antibiotics, etc. and ensure that the stability and sterility of these salutation is appropriate for patient consumption
Participate in in-service education programs when requested
Participate in clinical programs instituted in the department such as drug level monitoring, antibiotic monitoring, pharmacokinetic consults, etc.,; communicate with Coordinator-Clinical Pharmacy Services on such issues as necessary
EDUCATION/LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirement:
Graduate of an ACPE accredited School of Pharmacy with a BS Pharmacy or PharmD degree
Knowledge of TJC, USP 797, 795, and 800, and federal and state regulations required
Kentucky Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist license
Ohio Pharmacist license obtained within 90 days of hire
Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Achieves and maintains American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life Support within first 90 days of employment.
Preferred qualifications:
Hospital and acute care experience preferred
PGY-1 residency from an ASHP accredited program
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Constantly works near moving mechanical parts
Constantly exposed to blood and/or body fluids and infection.
Occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals
Occasionally exposed to risk of radiation
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Occasionally required to maintain in a stationary position (standing or sitting).
Frequently required to walk and move about.
Frequently required to operate a computer and other equipment.
Frequently required to use fine motor skills to handle and operate instruments/devices.
Constantly required to lift and/or move items up to 10 pounds.
Frequently required to lift and/or move items up to 50 pounds.
Occasionally required to lift and/or move items up to 100 pounds.
Constantly required to communicate with patients and other care team requiring talking and hearing.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Occasionally required to position self in order to meet patient needs.
