The role requires broad product understanding from the electrical, power, control, and hardware-interface perspective, along with strong familiarity with the development and integration of small tubular motor systems.\nPrimary Responsibilities\nElectrical System Architecture & Benchtop Development\nOwn system-level electrical architecture for motorized shade and screen control products, including block diagrams, power budgets, interface definitions, electrical requirements, and design trade studies.\nDesign, assemble, operate, and troubleshoot functional benchtop systems integrating small tubular motors and other motor technologies, motor controllers, power supplies, batteries, BMS and charging circuits, communications boards, sensors, harnesses, and other electrical subsystems.\nPartner with Mechanical Engineering to transition validated benchtop designs into final product packaging, addressing component placement, enclosure interfaces, heat transfer and thermal management, airflow or conduction paths, serviceability, and environmental requirements.\nTranslate product requirements into practical, reliable, serviceable, cost-effective, and manufacturable electrical solutions.\nSupport the electrical and hardware architecture of existing and future systems and motor platforms across the Screen Innovations and Shade Innovations controls and motor ecosystem.\nPCB/PCA & Electronic Hardware Design\nDesign analog, digital, mixed-signal, power-management, protection, sensing, and microcontroller-based circuitry for control products and electrical subsystems.\nCreate and review schematics, PCB/PCA layouts, component selections, bills of material, fabrication packages, and assembly documentation using Altium Designer or comparable ECAD tools.\nLead PCB bring-up, design debugging, design reviews, and release activities, including design for manufacturability, testability, reliability, serviceability, thermal performance, and cost.\nEvaluate component performance, derating, thermal behavior, signal integrity, power integrity, grounding, protection, EMI/EMC risk, lifecycle, and availability.\nPerform hands-on prototype assembly, wiring, soldering, board modification, and rework to support rapid development, troubleshooting, and design validation.\nMotor Control & Embedded Firmware\nDevelop, document, and maintain production-quality embedded firmware for motor controllers and other low-level hardware-control functions.\nImplement and validate motor-control behavior such as direction, speed profiles, acceleration and deceleration, current and torque limits, position and limit management, obstruction detection, thermal protection, fault handling, diagnostics, and recovery behavior.\nDevelop and integrate microcontroller peripherals, device drivers, and hardware interfaces, including GPIO, PWM, ADC, UART, SPI, I²C, and RS-485, as applicable. Define and validate Ethernet and PoE electrical interfaces, power requirements, protection, isolation, connectivity, and integration with communications boards and motor-control systems.\nPartner with Software Engineering to define and validate electrical and I/O interfaces for PoE, wired, and wireless communications boards and the broader Screen Innovations and Shade Innovations controls ecosystem.\nSupport firmware bring-up, regression testing, version control, release documentation, and production programming and test requirements.\nPower, Battery & Communications Hardware Integration\nDesign and integrate low-voltage power architectures, power supplies, DC/DC and AC/DC conversion, protection circuits, power distribution, and PoE-powered subsystems.\nSelect, integrate, and validate lithium battery packs, battery-management systems, charging solutions, protection features, and battery-powered product architectures.\nDefine voltage levels, current requirements, power sequencing, signal interfaces, connectors, harnesses, and interface-control requirements between motors, controllers, communications boards, power systems, and peripheral devices.\nEvaluate and integrate commercially available motors and motor-control components, including small tubular motor systems, while defining requirements for customized solutions when needed.\nModeling, Simulation, Test & Validation\nModel and analyze electrical circuits, hardware, motor-control behavior, control systems, power systems, thermal performance, and overall system performance using tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, LTspice, Altium Designer, Zuken CR-8000, E3.series, or comparable engineering tools.\nUse electrical and controls modeling to troubleshoot designs, validate assumptions, and reduce physical-hardware risk before prototype builds, throughout the design cycle, during production transfer, and after product release.\nDevelop design-verification plans, qualification requirements, acceptance criteria, test procedures, and release-readiness documentation.\nPerform hands-on electrical characterization, fault injection, stress testing, thermal evaluation, load testing, and system-level validation using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, electronic loads, power analyzers, meters, debuggers, and related laboratory equipment.\nLead root-cause investigations and corrective actions for PCB/PCA, motor-control, power, battery, supplier, production, and field-performance issues.\nProvide in-service engineering support for released products, including technical troubleshooting, failure analysis, corrective actions, design improvements, component substitutions, and support for Quality, Manufacturing, Technical Support, and Procurement.\nSupport product safety, EMC/ESD, environmental, reliability, and applicable regulatory or certification testing.\nProcurement, Supplier & Production Partnership\nPartner closely with Procurement on component and supplier selection, technical sourcing, cost and availability tradeoffs, alternate-part qualification, lifecycle and obsolescence planning, and supply-risk mitigation.\nDevelop technical specifications, statements of work, interface requirements, validation criteria, and supplier acceptance requirements for motors, electronic assemblies, power systems, batteries, and related components.\nServe as a technical interface with motor suppliers, component manufacturers, PCB/PCA partners, contract engineering firms, and contract manufacturers.\nGuide external partners developing customized small tubular motors or electrical subsystems while retaining ownership of system requirements, interfaces, design reviews, validation, and final technical acceptance.\nWork within structured NPD and NPI processes, including requirements definition, architecture reviews, design reviews, risk management, verification, production-readiness reviews, design transfer, and launch support.\nSupport prototype builds, supplier qualification, production transfer, pilot builds, manufacturing test development, product launch, sustaining engineering, and post-launch improvements.\nRequired Qualifications\nBachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.\n7+ years of hands-on electrical or electronic product-development experience, including ownership of designs from concept through validation, production readiness, and release.
