Fabrication Shop Foreman

Our client, a well-established structural steel fabrication company in the Metro Detroit area, is seeking an experienced ShopForeman to oversee daily fabrication operations. This individual will be responsible for leading shop personnel, coordinating production activities, maintaining safety and quality standards, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background in structural steel fabrication, hands‑on shop experience, and proven leadership capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise daily fabrication activities including cutting, fitting, welding, drilling, and finishing of structural steel components
Plan, prioritize, and assign work to meet production schedules and project deadlines
Read and interpret shop drawings, blueprints, specifications, and welding symbols
Monitor workflow and address issues impacting quality, safety, productivity, or schedule
Ensure fabricated materials and outbound loads comply with applicable weight and dimensional requirements
Enforce company policies, safety procedures, and workmanship standards
Conduct daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and production briefings
Assist with employee training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions as needed
Coordinate closely with project management, purchasing, and shipping teams
Communicate production status, labor requirements, material shortages, and operational concerns to management
Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, and efficiency
Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of structural steel fabrication experience
At least 2 years of supervisory, lead, or foreman experience preferred
Hands‑on experience with welding, fitting, fabrication equipment, and shop operations
Required Skills
Ability to read and interpret structural steel drawings, fabrication details, and specifications
Working knowledge of AWS welding codes and industry fabrication standards
Familiarity with overhead cranes, forklifts, and fabrication machinery
Basic computer proficiency for reporting, scheduling, and communication
Strong leadership, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
Effective verbal communication and organizational abilities
Preferred Qualifications
ClassA CDL and experience operating flatbed equipment
AWS Welding Supervisor and/or Welding Inspector certification
OSHA10 or OSHA30 certification
Forklift and/or overhead crane certifications
