Grain Operator II

Summary: Canyon Falls Farm is seeking a Grain Operator II to independently operate grain-handling equipment, perform routine troubleshooting, support grain-quality preservation, and complete all activities safely and efficiently. This role expands on foundational operator skills by introducing intermediate-level diagnostics, more complex routing tasks, and stronger ownership of safety and quality procedures Responsibilities: Operate grain-handling and flaking equipment, including conveyors, bucket elevators, bin distributors, and loadout systems. Perform routine grain routing, including bin changes, standard transfers, and dryer inputs/outputs following established SOPs. Conduct truck and rail loading and unloading activities, ensuring accurate weights, proper documentation, and safe equipment use. Perform intermediate troubleshooting on mechanical and process issues such as misalignment, minor blockages, common alarms, or abnormal noises/vibrations. Identify and report abnormal grain-quality conditions (moisture, temperature, contamination) and escalate concerns promptly. Complete routine quality checks, including sampling, visual inspections, and monitoring storage conditions. Support grain-quality preservation by tracking temperature/moisture readings and reporting trends or anomalies to senior personnel. Perform equipment inspections to identify wear (belts, buckets, bearings, spouting) and contribute to preventive-maintenance planning. Create accurate and detailed work orders describing issues, symptoms, and immediate corrective actions taken. Ensure housekeeping standards and 5S practices are upheld in all work areas. Follow all safety procedures, including proper PPE use, LOTO authorization at the user level, and hazard-reporting expectations. Support continuous-improvement activities by identifying inefficiencies or recurring issues and suggesting improvements. Provide informal coaching to entry-level operators to help them understand SOPs, equipment basics, and safety practices. Qualifications: High school diploma/GED; technical coursework/certification in industrial maintenance or ag operations preferred. 3+ years in grain handling, industrial operations, or agricultural processing. Proficient in operating grain-handling equipment, including conveyors, elevators, and loadout systems. Working knowledge of grain-quality factors such as moisture, temperature, and contamination risks. Ability to interpret basic bin maps, flow diagrams, and SOPs. Intermediate troubleshooting skills with ability to resolve common mechanical or process issues. Basic familiarity with HMI screens and ability to respond appropriately to common alarms. Solid communication skills with ability to receive and relay technical information clearly. Strong situational awareness and attention to detail in safety and quality tasks. Demonstrated reliability, consistency, and ability to follow established procedures. Willingness to learn advanced troubleshooting and grain-flow concepts. Ability to mentor less-experienced operators and contribute positively to team culture. Preferred Certifications: Forklift and heavy-equipment certification, LOTO Authorized User, Confined-Space Entry Awareness, OSHA-10 (General Industry or Agriculture).
